I had a music repair guy look at it. He said wiring good, heatsink wasn’t contacting the resistor so wasn’t doing anything. He doesn’t do car stuff tho. Voltage regulator and 555 chip replaced although looks sloppy. Help appreciated! Here’s a pic. Not sure how to PM on here

There’s plenty of people in cali who can fix it or make one for you. The caveat is that’s it’s probably cheaper/easier to buy a new one. Area 74 makes one. It’s $120. Not sure if USD or CAD.

I’ll said it once and I’ll say it again. It’s a very simple circuit. It’s a good beginner soldering project. Even if you have none of the tools available, it would cost as much as a new one all in AND you’ll be left with enough spare components to make 10-20 more without spending anything else.

Why do no electronics people on fiverr etc are scared to touch it? It seems like a simple circuit I can solder guitar pickups I just don’t know the value of the resistors etc or how to test the circuit. What is the website for area 74? Never heard of it I’ll buy one asap

Maybe I’m barking up the wrong tree what tech or shop should I ask to fix mine? The electric music instrument repair people I asked said they have no way to test or won’t do it for fear it may cause damage to car.

I mean you are definitely barking up the wrong tree.

Also the resistor values are well known. Here’s a link (3rd time I’ve linked it on the forum) to someone who also designed a simulator for the is300.

You can always find a shop to do it for you. If you offshore everything, it might be $100+ for 5 boards. PCBway can do both the PCB layout and manufacturing. Plenty of shops in the US that can do it too. Probably $200-300+ as a starting point.

I’m sure someone on fiver can do this. Find a PCB layout/design service. Might be hard to find someone who can be bothered to take up such a small project locally.

I got an amp builder on fiverr to try and fix it. He did a sloppy job of dropping mounds of solder replacing the voltage regulator and the 555 timer and sent me back a broken unit. Fiverr sucks they wouldn’t refund me. I may just try and splice a resister and cap into my o2 sensor. Am desperate right now.

No one wants to be liable for commercially creating a device to circumvent EPA regulations. Read about Evans Performance and maybe that’ll help you see why it’s a touchy subject. I really doubt the EPA is gonna send black helicopters after one guy building O2 sims in his basement, but man, you never know.

Download EagleCAD and build the circuit. Toner transfer it to a pcb, etch that dude with some peroxide/muriatic acid, drill it, and populate it.

Did the EPA consider any programmable ECU a "defeat device" in the context of this complaint? Thus the precedent is no shop may sell ECUs or dynotune vehicles fitted with emissions-noncompliant parts?
IANAL, but what I understood was the EPA cracked him for selling “test” pipes and COBB AP that had the secondary oxygen sensor turned off. I don’t think you can even do that now, like COBB took the feature away. I’m surprised that they haven’t forced others to do the same - like HPTuners and similar. The way that aftermarket standalone ECU manufacturers sidestep, is their blanket statement of “this device is never to be used on public roadways blah blah”. Now, why Evans, instead of someone else? I’m not certain. I guess the EPA could prove somehow he knew these cars were being driven on public roads, and sold/installed the defeat devices anyway?

They did not use a release of liablity statement and have the end customer sign it. Stating it was for off road and testing purposes. This will usually protect a company. Use to use them back in the day. People seem to have forgotten about them. Even the EPA cannot stop it if it must be installed physically by end cust. The real trick comes into the ECU defeat type software.
