NYC roads have fucked me once again. I need to know whats involved in replacing the tank. Ive replaced tanks on FWD cars but I see the tank on the IS is split do I have to drop the trans axle? if so is that just an unbolt rebolt or something more complex? I need to know ASAP right now i can get a tank for about 250, lexus wants 450 + install.

Ok,
Looks like if I unbolt the axle at the carrier the tank should slide out

question,
1) How do i disconnect the rear parking break the lines run under the tank
2) do i have to disconnect the sensors b4 i drop it or do they have slack?
3) do i need new gaskets or will old gaskets with gasket sealer work?

Statement
lexus repair manuals suck :bitching:

OK. I'm sorry to hear about your dilemma... but how did you do this? What did NY roads do to your car? I've driven up there many many many many times. I still have a gas tank :-?

shit, sorry, i didn't see this post, since i built the worlds first twin pump system for the IS, i took my tank in and out about 15 times, you should have PMed me like you usually do

you do not have to drop the rear diff

you do need to take the driveshaft and ebrake lines down

there are a few shields that need to be taken down

there are 3 or 4 lines in the back of the tank that need to be taken out

the sending unit on the drivers side and the sending unit on the passenger side need to be disconnected as well as the feed line

there is no chance a rock ruptured the tank, want to tell me what is really going on? btw, how much for the old tank?

metal plate ruptured it(with the help of a frame brace). old one is peirced It can be welded, free if you want it(in exchange for into  )

had to
1) remove drive shaft (needed longer spanners)
2) remove exhaust
3) remove parking brake
4) the hoses on top of the tank are a bitch to reattach(at least with the car 2 feet in the air)
5) be a master balancer to get the tank back in
