i found someone selling updated nav discs that say they work for 2001-2005 IS300's but it also says in his add it will only work with Gen2 and Gen3 nav systems. How do i know what generation my nav system is?

You have an 02 so your nav is generation 2.

That looks like the correct version. Call into Lexus and verify the part number.
