Originally A thread by dasgalloway, I'm reposting this to get it organized (and hopefully step up the discussion again):

This is an addition to help organize some of the topics being discussed in the "NA Discussion" thread. What I want to do is create a list of all the NA APU topics that are being discussed, and potentially create a new thread for each.

Eventually the goal will be to create an APU page to complement the BPU page (that I need to get back to work on).

If you have information pertaining to one of these categories, or something else I failed to mention, create a new thread discussing it and send me a PM so I can add it here. Since boost and basic bolt on parts have been pretty well explored, it is time to step up and get some serious knowledge on these more advanced upgrades. +REP to anyone who makes positive contributions to these threads.

I will establish this right now. ANYONE WHO SAYS "Forget NA, just get BOOST!" gets a warning. If you want to have a negative attitude, keep it out of our discussions.

If you have anything to add to the list please do so.

Most of this list is taken from a list kponti has already PM'd me to get this going:

It's sort of a touchy subject but have we ever head a decent (civil) conversation about nitrous? I mean, for guys who want to "go fast" for cheap, that's really the way to go. It's not for me but I thought it should be mentioned regardless..

^^ Good question. Would it qualify as chemical boost or a "bolt on" though?

I wouldn't call nitrous a bolt on item, I think NOS belongs in go faster with all the other boost related topics.

Like I said before, nitrous is really more of a go faster type item along with other types of boost, there is a lot more to nitrous than bolting on a kit, a tank and letting rip, I consider it to be a last resort kind of power adder since it is so dangerous (to you and your car)

We could add a forged aluminum driveshaft, or a CF driveshaft if anyone knows where to get the CF one. Not sure how much either of these will add, but it's gotta be good for something.

cut the fat

best way to go, i think, is to cut the fat... i personaly wouldnt. i love how nice they made the is class... but i mean you could strip the car c/f a bunch of it and i think that would make a huge impact on the cars n/a motor not having to push as hard to get you going

but just curious...

say you get all the above done and tuned nice... where would an is's rwhp come up to? would it be worth your buck? i mean it is a toyota engine and n/a would maybe be a really good thing for a reliable engine.... not being negative... i would love to see the turn out on someones is... i just want an estimate on all the numbers... price and hp...

Just a quick add to the APU thread, found this iamge of where the jumpers should be on the emanage ultimate, might help someone who is having issues with the car after install
Not done in this pic, but make sure jumper # 8 is set to 2-3

This is a topic that has always interested me. I know I'll build an NA IS300 at some point in my life.

Brian Crower also makes a full compliment of valve-train components:

Has anybody actually done a serious APU build?? Forgive my newbness here (mods feel free to delete my post). But I'm curious as to what this combo here would produce as far as HP/TQ numbers are comcerned:

- Crower Stroker Kit
- Crower Stage 3 Cams
- Cam Gear
- Crower Springs/Retainers
- Crower Valves
- Headwork (porting, polishing etc...)
- Greddy E-Manage
- Larger Throttle Body
- Intake
- Header/Exhaust

Sounds like that could make some serious power.... but I can't find any record of anybody doing it.

I would love to see someone put together a solid NA build like this, unfortunately, it is expensive and unproven. I know I've seen a number of people that were interested in doing this, but no one knew what kind of results you could expect, no one wanted to find out for themselves either at the high price of doing all of this work. At least we're starting to see some dyno results from the stage 2 crower cams now (which look pretty good so far). It gets expensive quick though, especially the stroker.

In the end you would easily spend as much as it would cost to boost the car and you would probably have a good bit less power than if you had boosted. On the other hand, you don't have the complications of a turbo and intercooler piping and you have a (hopefully) nice NA powerband.

Luv this thread.
Does anyone know that Borla made headers for IS300 back than 2001 with limited quantity?
I know someone selling it right now and asking for $900 brand new.
Was it worth it just for the headers?
I can upload picture maybe tomorrow.

Edit 8/9/09 upload picture

i have stock motor just change the jic header 2,5 inchi coming with y piye and small resonator too, magnaflow catalytic and for back i put hks hi power. i like the sound andlittle bit loud.
so i have question, if i put my jic header 2,5 inchi and i want make y pipe custom with 3 inchi all the way to muffler. and my question is ,that's working or not? i mean if i put 3 inchi my car have more power or just make loud and no power? because the pipe is to big. and my plan, i want put greedy emanage too.
so i need helping from u guys, or maybe u guys haave another option.
