can i tell you guys a SECRET? I have a friend who works for the production-stunt company that does the commercials for all the VW ads and some of the Lexus. They've done pretty much all the most recent VW ads (you know...Passat in the Street of San Fran style chase...Mr Roboto...etc). Anyway, my friend was moving around this "new lexus" a while back (last June) and guess what his experience was... ---(wayne's world timewarp)--- 1) need to move this new car around shop 2) huh...what's this? 3) gets in...huh...neat gaugecluster 4) oh...its a lexus...must be new 5) just about to start car...grab GEARSHIFT looks at top....Hey this is a SIX SPEED! Yes, you read it right. My friend drove a pre-production 6spd IS300. This was a USA market IS....left hand drive. THIS is what i'm waiting for...and why my callsign is still ROTARYBZZZ. I guess this has been my "burning secret" for awhile....

That's old news to me...6spd.
Did he tell also tell you it had 245 hp??Navigaton, Memory Seats AND (drum roll) an armrest....JUST KIDDING, Great confession, they are coming !!!!
Its been known for a while that the IS300 will get a 5SP MT. I doubt Aishin has made a new 6SP MT for larger tourque engine in this short amount of time.

There is a high chance that your friend drove the 6SP IS200 left hand drive thats already been available in different countries.

But if the IS300 is getting a 6SP, that is quite some news.
they coulda dressed up a 6 speed IS200 to look like an IS (US bumpers and change the 200 to 300) was the gauge cluster in Kilometers or MPH? tell me where this place is and I'll go check. I am a ninja and can walk thru walls without being detected.

Later model Turbo Supra's had 6spd tranny's for their in-line six. Since Supra and IS300 use essentially the same motor, the bell housing should still be roughly the same to match the engine block. If Celica GTS's are comming with 6spd's, why not the IS300...the Lexus "pursuit of perfection 3-series fighter"? No?! I'm hoping anyway!!!
The 6SP MT on the Supra is a Getrag (can't spell) German made transmmission, very expensive.

Altezza (RWD) and Celica (FWD) 6SP is made by Aishin, Japan, very affordable due to more production volume and cost efficiency. I doubt IS300 will have a Getrag transmission. If it did, it will probably be more expensive than (or about the same price as) the 5SP AT on the current IS300, and the price for the Manual IS may become higher than that of the AT.
That's interesting that you mention that about the german transmission. Honestly, i didn't know toyota had an agreement with Getrag. Cool having a Getrag transmission in Supras: they are sourced in many race-only vehicles/racecars. This brings me to another point...one i've speculated about with friends who work in import-export japanese auto parts industry. Their speculation on the manual-shift IS300 is "it will be the same price as the automatic". They (Lexus) don't need to price it less than the current auto-IS300 b/k manual-tranny volume is suppose to be only 15% of production (or so i've read) The level of customer that Lexus is targeting won't isn't as concerned with saving X dollars for buying a stick instead of an auto (think stripped Huyndai with no a/c or radio). Hmmmm, just thinking outloud....

That's interesting. I didn't know that TRD North America even existed as a company. Shouldn't it be TRD USA as it is TRD JAPAN in Asia? How come your working on Sunday night? I should change my name to MazdaNorthAmerica eh???? :p
What's tmmna stand for ? So.. when will the IS300 supercharger be available ?

NUMMI!
This thread went from interesting to a waste of everyones time... get back to the 6 spd. tranny, the 18 psi supercharger and the monster truck tires they're spec'ing on the 2002.

I am trying to get something out of this thread--the release date of the IS300 supercharger from TRDNorthAmerica. Come on TRDNorthAmerica, you can tell us. We'll keep it a secret. 8^)
