umm.. wrong math.

the tank is 17.5 gal. if you went all the way to empty, and not to about 3/4, then your math shoueld be: 392/17.5 = 22.4 mpg.

That is pretty typical mileage.

Besides, why buy a car with aggressive gearimg and granny it??? You bought this car for the driving experience, not its incredible mileage. I suggest you open up the engine a little.

I got 22-23 mpg almost all the while, and I get on the gas almost everytime i get in the car. Enough hwy driving will even out your mileage.

No....I'm not wrong....It only lets me put in 14.5 gallons. So from full to when the light goes on is where I'm getting my numbers.

There's always about 2 gallons in reserve before the low gas light come on.

Thats like buying a Porsche because you like the interior design and dont care about speed. Doesnt go together. Whoever buys an IS bought it for the driving experience.

When the gas pump stops? Well only one explanation and that is you dont go any past that first time it stops of the gas pump. and you refill it right when the light goes on. When the gas pump stops telling you its full you can get over 1/2 gallon more. ;) Done it a couple of times.

ok.. you should always top off a lil more after the pump stops.. liek someone pointed out, another .5 gallons of space is left in the tank. so you put in say 15gal. thats still 26 mpg which is very healthy.

The fact that you claim this was your first tank of gas, and you did this on regular gas (retards the ignition timing) makes me suspect this entire thread now.

I'm not saying 440 on a tank is impossible. but its called hwy driving only, no stops, windows down, and car set to cruise between 70 and 80 mpg.

And if that is how you drive the IS, then you my friend , have yet to realize they the IS was made .

I've said this before and I'll say it again. Back in the day, I use to get over 400 per tank all the time driving mostly highway, cruise control, and snow button back and forth to work on 94 sunoco.

Mods: SRT intake, dragger exhaust.

I made 272.7 miles on my first tank of gas. It took 14.803 gallons to fill it up. The most miles I got was 305 because of a long highway trip.

I tried driving like a grandma to get better gas but it juse angers me going so slow, then I just mash on the peddle and start passing people.

yup.. that sounds sensible Eric... but unless this guy was somehow controlling throttle mashing better than CC + SNOW + HWY, this sounds unreasonable, esp, on regular gas.

I have gone to 400 miles on a tank twice. So I know its achievable. but not on 14.5 gal of gas, while driving back and forth to work.. the very stop, restart, go of daily driving will ensure that # will never be reached.
