Not exactly. viper, doulbins, glogik, or other should look into this. We can use my site as a centralized point. we need people to be able to upload a few pictures along with a long list of comments for mod listings and descriptions. Any ideas welcome!

Just an Idea. Dont flame me!! This would work. Just dont know if its practical.......

Create a word doc insert pics and comments, then pdf as that users name. then post. It would be clean and we could set up some specific parameters for the size of the pdf.

Only downfall is someone would have to pdf the users that dont have access to adobe.

heh.. i understood what you meant.. and that sounds like a great idea to me... we could even think of it as a display board for your car... (if sized right) and pdf's are incredibly small.

Ok, so Erik and I have been throwing around the idea of having a web app to display video/pics/and bio's of people and their cars. Is anyone interested in taking on this venture??? I would have no problem helping out where I can. The only problem is that this can be very expensive. We would need a web-server, a database, host-name, and a lot of man power (coding the app). Is there anyone that has any ideas on this issue. The way I look at it is to get a box somehow and load Linux on it. That OS can interact with many different types of databases and Linux supports PHP or ASP (ASP would be tricky and would need some software to configure) and is the cheapest way to go about doing this. A window's base OS web-server is EXPENSIVE as hell, unless anyone has the software to install on the server.

Anyways, thats what I was thinking if anyone can think of a better more creative way to create this web-app please let us know.

AIM: KICA5 or PM me, although I am not on as much as I used to be. AIM is the best way.

Erik had talked to me about this awhile ago, but it seems his impatience has led to him shopping me around :shame:

The coding would take me all of a day to do ...the problem (as Erik well knows) is finding a free day. :(

As for all that other stuff, we can host the first few cars on Erik's site (he's got the bandwidth to spare) and when it gets big we can buy our own site for 30/month. No benefit in having one of us host a server and maintain it and deal with that hassle.

Your saying you can code the app in a day??? Is this a static site?? If we want this to be dynamic then we have ALOT of coding to do, plus the hassel of setting up the table structures, nevermind finding a free, easy to use, database. Viper, what exactly were you thinking about for the solution??
