You will definitely see higher wheel horsepower rating in the manual than the automatic. I will bet the 0-60 time will be at least 0.3 to 0.5 quicker in the manual, especially if they put in a good gearbox w/ a good clutch.

it usually depends on who makes it....some companies have good automatics that leaves .5 of a second betweent he auto and the manual, other havea difference of a full second, it depends on who makes the car

is it a big deal?? I been driving manual all my life (civic) of course and intersted in the manual IS.. but i can't wait a year for it to come...I hate waiting.. i hope that the e-shift can somewhat do the same things a manual trans.. car can do. I already order my IS which should be here in the next couple of days.

As much as I like the e-shift feature, it cannot replace a real manual system. I sometimes still find myself reaching for the clutch and trying to shift gears, only to realize that I am not in my GSX anymore. One good thing about the e-shift system of this car is that it shifts much faster than the Prelude and BMW's system, so that is a plus. It is very useful if you are trying to attack twisty roads where you need to select gears yourself, but it is not good for trying to mimic a manual from 1-5 and then 5-1 (since there is not 1).
If you are in So. Cal and drives the 405 N. from Jamboree to Harbor, then you will really appreciate the automatic once you get it. It is a world of a difference on your left leg.

Purists will pick the true manual.

I am compromising my pricipals (and going with a "remote control" auto trans) because I am so tired of working the clutch in commute traffic, and I like the idea of being able to deal with the hills of San Francisco without worry of rolling back into the car behind me.

oooh, i hate the 405 from jamboree to harbor. with no traffic it takes 3 minutes, but with the wonderful OC traffic, we get to sit there for at least 20 mins. just great. also, what about that nice 55 traffic goin to riverside, or the 10? or the .... i oculd go on about so cal traffic. i used to have a GSR, which was tons of fun, but sucked while in traffic.

I recently read that the manual trans, due next year, will be the same price, if not more than the AT. The reason being that they will not produce as many MT's as AT's. I thought about waiting for the MT, but damn, the car was calling me every time I drove by the dealership. I love my IS and I have it NOW!!! Just something to think about.
