LSD or limited slip differential is a system to allow the opposite wheel to put power to the ground when one wheel cannot get grip on the road surface. With an open differential, when one wheel loses traction, all of the power ends up at that wheel and you get stuck. The IS uses a Torsen or torque sensing differential uses a gear system to give a certain ratio of power to each wheel when needed, if you want to learn more about LSDs and Torsen type LSDs, check out howstuffworks.com http://auto.howstuffworks.com/differential3.htm
