Hello all. The current issue of Motor Trend magazine has a flagship comparison that includes the all new LS430. Aside from exterior styling (which is a personal preference), it scored pretty good.
Check it out!

There is usually a month delay before the actual magazine article is posted on the web. What I'm curious to know is how the new Lexus LS430 did in comparision to the Mercedes Benz S430 and the BMW 740iL. Bimmer won last comparison in Car & Driver against LS400 (2nd place) and MB S430 (4th place).

Yeah, the article will probably be posted online towards the end of September. The new issue just came out.
The competition is stiff. Both BMW and MB make excellent cars. Lexus was either up to par or ahead in terms of amenities and options, although performance was modest. Especially since both the S500 (not S430) and the 740iL Sport had performance tires on 18" rims, and sport tuned suspensions. Nevertheless, Lexus did well in all aspects. The only thing that killed it was styling, although I think it looks classy. The editor gave it a C for exterior styling, calling it a big avalon. I know it's not as aggressive as BMW, but I happen to like it. Styling is a personal preference that shouldn't bring the overall score down. In all other tests, the car was head to head, despite the $20/30K price advantage that it will probably have.
I guess I'm proud of lexus for this new extraordinary achievement.
Keep it up Lexus.

LS430 should provide an interesting competition for Bimmers, Mercedes, Audi and alikes. The same bang-for-the-buck compare to other luxury cars would be something alot of ppl looking forward to. However, its styling isn't as dramatic as new Infiniti Q45...heck it might be ugly, but we will get used to it over the time. The current Prelude was criticized to be one Ugly Car when it just came out, but just see how many Preludes are running around the road??

Andy,

There are several ways to protect a car during shipments. Most common methods is put plastic wrapers(bags??)over Seats, door handles, and on easily scratched areas. BMW, for example, sprays chemicals on and under the cars before shipments to protect the paint, and dealer will clean/wash those chemical substances off before delivery the cars to their owners.
