I'm just wondering if the pace car, that Lexus developed for Marlboro CART 500 FedEx Championship season finale, will go into production for the 2002 model year. I bet it'll make up for the power and performance complaints that some people have. It has a stiffer suspension, 50 more hp, beefier tires, a 5 speed manual gearbox, brembo brakes, and more.

Can any insiders confirm this?? PLEASE!!!

I don't know officially, but I don't think it will be. It will just make the car too expensive and you will be in the price of the 330i probably. Plus the fact that the car is not going to have the "Lexus Ride" characteristic, so it may lower the sales if this is the only model they have. Even if they want to make this as a special model like the M and the AMG, I don't think it will happen. It is better for them to get a M5 competitor out first then a M3 competitor I think.

That's exactly what some people are looking for...they don't mind sacrificing ride for performance. And for the added horsepower, they can add on an R or something, and charge more money for it.
If performance, handling, and amenities are better than the BMW, I don't see why some people would mind paying more than $34K. I know I would've.
I know, just by reading about it, that the pace car that TRD built is just the car that I would be interested in - ya know, it would'nt need any more mods.
