there's 3 different kinds of Z3's.
2.3,2.8 or //M??which one are you talking about? i've raced a 2.3 before and i've won...^^ that wasn't even a race...
depends on which version. the 3.0 are pretty fast. in the mid 14s i think.

The Z3 3.0 with auto is faster than the 330i with auto (they share the same engine, but the Z3 is lighter), which is somewhat faster than the IS300. So the Z3 should win relatively easily in just about any kind of race...drag, autox, or track.
IS should only be able to beat the 1.9L I-4 version. Acceleration wise the Z3 wins. BMW quotes these for the 2.5: (the 2000 2.3 won't be much slower)

()= Automatic

Unladen
lbs
2899 (2987)

Acceleration 0-60 mph2
sec
6.7 (6.8)

cant compare, that car is a 2 seater roadster. its lighter and more nimble than the IS300.

I agree when ur referring to the drag strip. On road courses and autoX it's the driver and I doubt the Z3 can "easily win"

Let me put an end to all of this right now. I own an IS and a 2001 Z3 3.0 (automatic). I also had a 2000 Z3. Without a doubt, the Z3 romps on the IS. No comparison. The IS is sporty and moves, but driving the 3.0, you actually feel like you have power. You feel the car rumble when you get on it.

No comparison whatsoever.

The 2.3 is just the model number...it still has the 2.5 liter engine. I had one of these also. This car felt a lot quicker than the IS also.

The 3.0....forget about it.

On the contrary, there are MANY Z3 manuals. The M powered Z3 is ONLY offered in Manual.

This is about as vauge as "which is faster, chopped liver or Jabba the Hutt?"
Or "IS300 vs. my Foreman grill?"
I mean, the IS300 is fast, but I'll be damned if it can grill a chicken breast faster than the Almighty Foreman.

Most Z3s are manuals, I think I heard around 70% if not more. I have only driven the 2.3 (2.5L engine) with a stick. It was very fast and very nimble. It was a lot of fun

I screwed up that post. I meant "you won't find many Z3 automatics."

Romps on the IS....depends who's driving it......
I dunno...wrap up that chicken breast in some foil, stick it in the engine bay, and drive around at full throttle...should have some interesting results

Obviously. But the person driving the Z would have to be a retard.

This is like the "Thelma and louise" simpsons episode where Homer and chief wiggum chase Marge and her friend thru the desert. Wiggum cooks eggs on the engine block... I remember seeing some moron on some stupid morning show they shoot here in times square who made like an entire cookbook about cooking in your engine compartment... I'm not kidding.

I still say with all the mods on my foreman that the IS would be slaughtered in competition.

any one wanna race?
