Legend Coupe or IS300 ?

773 Views 14 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  Legend
Hi all, I'm new. I currently own a '92 Acura Legend and looking to get the IS300 soon. I think i'll wait it out thru the winter before buying thou. At the same, I'm also wondering if I should get the 1995 Legend Coupe. I know this is a Lex forum, but I think we all can agree the Legend is a classic, one of the few cars Honda did right.
The '95 Coupe would be around $19.5k, it looks awesome still and perform equally well (230 horses) in most aspects. Finally, being a current Legend owner, i know it'll last FOREVER. Any advice on which ones I should get? thanx in advance.

These cars are soooo different!! Have you driven as IS300 yet??

Anyways, assuming you like both cars....
I love the older Legends, but a brand new car is awfully hard to pass up.
Hopefully mryuen will see your post - he has an IS and a mid 90s legend!
Congrats on your taste in cars! It's true, the two cars are VERY different. I have a '95 Legend coupe and the IS3. I love both, but each has it's good points. I think the Legend overall is a more comfortable car. Granted I have it lowered with a Greddy exhaust, RM Racing intake and a lot of other goodies, but the overall interior ergonomics and seats that fit like a glove are top notch. The IS has more headroom but is much narrower. I think the seating position is better in the Legend...possibly the lack of a center armrest contributes to this. As far as performance and handling, the IS has the edge. The IS seems more stable and tight (very athletic feel over bumps) It seems that any bump is gracefully negotiated by the IS's suspension. Both are a kick to drive and both get plenty of attention. Power is almost equivilent since I have a lot of "go fast" stuff on the Legend and only an exhaust on the IS, but the Legend is a heavier car. If you decide to go with the Legend, go for the '95 model with the Type II engine. Either way, it's a win-win situation. For more info on the Legend, visit the Legend Forum at:

mryuen, o my gosh, ur cars are BEAUTIFUL! great taste!! either car would break necks on the road. believe me, I have been to every legend forum there is and has read most of the posts here as well. the legend has definitely spoiled me but i know that my next car should be a IS since its new (the '95 coupe legends are around 50-60k miles). Rite now though, if i could have two cars within my budgets, it'd be that SBM is300 u have and a black legend coupe'95.
I actually started off lookin at a CL-S. but after coming to this forum and doing some research, that's TOTALLY out of the question. Thanx 2 Mr.Clam, I'm also thinking about a M3 as well.
o yah, and i havn't test driven the is300 yet. my biggest fear is that i won't last thru the winter if i get a test drive in that car. I keep hearing how fun it is to drive it and if i do, i'll develope an itch and suffer thru out the winter!
either that or i'll end up buying one as soon as i testdrive and have my new car suffers thru the horrible snow/ice/salt of the VA winters. arg!

have you driven the cl-s?

I have. *yawn*

mryuen, that's a beautiful Legend. I have long liked the Legend myself. When that model Legend that you have came out, I wasn't too keen on the styling. Over the years, its grown on me. The same thing happened to me for the current model Integra. Acura seems to have been years ahead in their styling. Hopefully, the CL and TL styling will catch on in a couple years..

by the way, that's a nice driveway too. I'm sure there's a nice house attached to it. What country do you sell firearms to ?

geoff, hehe, i maybe new here but i know one thing can lead to another when it comes to a CL-S discussion with you. I'll tell you this, as a fellow Acura owner, I dont dispise honda the way some lex owners here do. In fact, the CL actually looks some wut like the 93-95 legends. Yes i DID testdrive the car, it is good in every sense and i believe at its value, it is a GOOD buy for ALOTA people. HOWEVER, the car (while fast) is not that much different from what i've seen from acura after the legend years. I'm still looking for that DISTINGUISHED acura car and the CLs isn't it. like the tl, rl, it is good but it is too normal. the IS is nothing like the rest of the lexus line, and it absolutely stands out from the crowd, ANY crowd.
dont get me wrong, the cl is a good car, just not what I'M looking for. BTW, it also didn't help that the ACURA dealers here won't budge a penny from their MSRP of $32k w/ nav. this is the same dealership where my current legend comes from. I mean, man, you are not going to develop any loyalty treating your existing customers like that.
the lexus dealer is right next door and i know that the second i drive that IS300, i'll be in love. its just that simple for me..

I originally wanted the IS, and still do. But the performance mixed with the price was too hard to pass up...I got the CL-S.

CL-S, no NAV for $29,000.

That's easily $4,000 less than a deal on an IS300.

As a CL-S owner, let me say that that is one of the best reviews/opinions of the CL-S I have read yet!! Many of the people on this forum don't believe this, but **most** of the CL-S owners that frequent this board can TOTALLY UNDERSTAND why our car is not right for everyone.

And as far as your dealer is concerned, I'd be interested in when you test drove? They are smoking WAY too much crack if they think they're gonna get MSRP for this car!! I bought my car May 3rd from the ONLY Acura dealer in the city I live in and I didn't even pay MSRP back then!! I had never purchased a car from them either! Right now, you should be able to get AT LEAST $1500 off MSRP for a CL-S.
Well...not to beat this to death.

I did drive the CL-S and did like it's performance. However, I wasn't as taken with the exterior styling. Yes it has some similarity to the 2nd generation Legends, but I still think Acura has missed the mark ever since they canned the Legend. Again, the Legend still turns heads....not to sure if the CL-S does the same. Sorry for the potential backlash from this post....

I still love my IS...WALD lip, APEX springs, and TOM's eyebrows are coming next week!

Yeah I loved that Legend coupe... but! I loved it back when MC Hammer was popular! LOL
I think various cars have come a long way. The Legend Coupe had it's day in the sun.. just as the IS is having it's time now.... in a few years there will be another king of the hill. Who knows maybe 2003 will be the year of the RX7?!

I disagree. The Legend's day isn't over yet.

the legend coupe's days are over?
i really donno how u can say that, the car is not only already a classic, but its style's so far ahead of its time, it is STILL the best looking acura on the road today (next to the NSX of course). as for mc hammer, are you thinkin about the 1st generations? we are talkin about the 94-95 ones. and Hammer's long gone by then.

golden, as for the dealership, i testdrove back in sept. in our area, this car was THAT hot. it was actually CHEAPER back in may. but after all the good reviews came out. ppl all tried to get one and therefore the prices were jacked up. I actually got a call last week from the same dealership asking me to go back. but i'm not gonna do that, gonna wait it out for a 2002 iS
