Hi guys!
Just signed papers for Fully loaded IS. Problem is availibility of car with options I want. My choices have worked out to:
A.) a Demo that has limited slip + all options and saves me a bit (not a lot) of green.

B.)a brand new one without limited slip but all others options.

Both are Blue (only color I really like)
Limited slip is important to me since I will eventually be turbo charging the car, but that's gonna be a while and I don't think I need lmtd slip right now.
So the question: Is the axle the same on both and I can just swap the carrier out or does lexus make two different rear ends?
I can't imagine that they would bother makeing two different rear ends but ...

Thanks for any insight, Bill

I don't really know the answer to your question but I agree that it seems hardly true they would make two different rear axles... but you never know.

Can anyone else either confirm or deny this?

Scott.

Shop manual shows both differentials apparently fitting into the same housing,
but the manual appears to cover the disassembly and repair of only the "normal"
diff, and not the LSD. There is a blowup
of the rear axle shown in Volume 2, "Suspension and Axle," and an inset view
of what is called "Torque Sensing LSD." However I did a fast pass thru the narrative,
and didn't see any reference to the LSD other
than on the blowup page. The page is SA-75
of Volume 2, and if you can get one of the
Lexus mechanics to fire up the computer, he
can show you this picture on his screen in
the shop.
