Does anyone have any info on the upcoming 2002 Toyota 4Runner? I love the current model, but it's not as powerful as I wish it were. I'm planning on buying an SUV, in addition to my IS...just wanna make sure I get the best one out there.

Toyota has a new SUV coming out called the Sequoa sp??? anyway, it will have a V8 engine with price just a little higher than the 4runner. I think eventually the sequoa will replace the landcrusher and Lexus will take that over entirely as the LX470.

I read the next generation 4runner will be close to two inches wider and have an upgraded powerplant. But I have also read it will remain close to its truck roots. Thank God there are a few legitimate trucks left.

there is a TRD supercharger for the current 4runner. the sequoia is based on the tundra and will look like it on the front and have more passenger space holding 7 or 8 ppl, will cost between 4runner and landcruiser. theres too many 4runners out there as is (my parents have a 99) and the landcruiser isnt really a good buy , especially if u planned on buying the third bench seat, in that case u could spend 1-3 thousand more and get the Lexus LX470 so why would u buy the lower model?

All those SUV's cover the entire market though...

RAV4 - (insert favorite mini-SUV joke/insult here)

Highlander - Toyota's version of the RX300, car-based...a jacked-up Camry station wagon

4Runner - Explorer-sized, truck-based

Sequoia - in between 4Runner and LandCruiser

LandCruiser - Large-size, Luxo-ute w/ actual off-road capability

I read somewhere that the Sequoia is actually larger than the Land Cruiser. Is the engine in the Camry and the 4Runner related? Both 3.0L V6, never looked into it. I do know that the Camry makes more HP than the 4Runner version though...

I'm not totally sure about the size of the Sequioa vs. the Landcruiser, but I doubt that Toyota would make anything larger than the its flagship SUV...over 40 years of LandCruisers!

The current 4Runner uses a 3.4L V6 (5VZ-FE) and the current Camry uses the 1MZ-FE w/o VVT-i (the ES300 has the same engine but w/ VVT-i).

So...currently, the two engines are not related, but the older Camrys and ES300's used the 3VZ-FE engine, which *is* related to the 5VZ. I hope that answers your question.

CAR and DRIVER Magazine / April 2000 Issue / Page 37:

Toyota Sequoia

"The giant sequoia redwood is unique to North America, and that will also be true of Toyota's new full-size sport-ute when it goes on sale in the fall. Based on the full-size Tundra pickup chassis, it will be built at Toyota's new plant in Indiana and powered by the Tundra's 4.7 liter V-8. The Sequoia is a little bigger than a Chevrolet Tahoe, a little smaller than a Ford Expedition, and the first direct challenge to either from a foreign nameplate. An addition to the current lineup rather than a replacement for any other vehicles, look for it to slot into the Toyota roster between the 4Runner and the top-of-the-line Land Cruiser."

"Keeping in Touch" (Toyota's Newsletter) / Volume 01 / Issue 02:

"...Sequoia is a full-size SUV that delivers a great driving experience. Sequoia has impressive power from an advanced 4.7 liter i-Force V8 engine and full-size room for eight with available third row seat. Yet with all of that power and size going for it, the Sequoia is targeted to achieve ultra-low emission vehicle (ULEV) certification from the EPA. With its many safety features, such as 4-wheel disc brakes with ABS, Sequoia is truly road-ready."

I know that the Sequoia slots between the 4Runner and Land Cruiser in the market. But in terms of sheer size I think it is supposed to be bigger than the Land Cruiser. Tundras look longer than Land Cruisers to me. I don't know the vehicle specs, so I'm just guessing and I'm too lazy to go look right now. :p Anyway, despite being bigger (if I actually read that and wasn't hallucinating or something) the price of the Sequoia is supposed to be between the 4Runner and Land Cruiser. So in terms of size, small to big: 4Runner, Land Cruiser, Sequoia. Price, cheap to expensive: 4Runner, Sequoia, Land Cruiser.
