Anyone know what the letters "JIL" that are raised on the OEM wheels stand for? I have seen other wheels with the same marking on them and was just wondering what it was.

If I am not mistaken, that is for the type of casting used for the manufacturing of the wheel.
Not sure what exactly stands for.

It's JWL not JIL and it's a set of Standards from Japan, similar to TÜV from Germany and DOT from the US

Why does it have the same marking on the VW Touareg wheels, as well as the wheels on the 20th anniversary GTI? Do you think those wheels are manufactured in Japan? I notice that also the older 4 spoke/style supra rims from the early 80s have the same mark.

It just means that it meets the JWL standard for Japan, just like many commercial tires sold in the world meets the US DOT Standard even though it may be sold outside of the US for other markets.
