I opened the hood on the is300 on Friday, and on the pass side i can see the street from the top of the motor, is this normal??

I opened the hood on my 96 accord and nope no street just skid plates....

So my question is, is this normal or not and the section is near the first cat!

Funny question, but yes, it's normal. How long have you had the car if this is the first time you opened the hood?

Yes, that is normal. On many cars, you can see the ground through the engine compartment. Many front wheel drive cars (like your Accord) are so packed in the engine bay, that you can't see through to the ground. Rear wheel drive cars tend to have more room in the engine bay...

JW - great tag line... the mullet head reference to a Camaro brought back visions of when I was in High School in the early 80's.

Cheers,

Like webmaster said its common, but even more so with an inline (non-V or flat) engine on a rear wheel drive. Plenty 'o room for turbos and such!
