I felt like the two cars were pretty close to even in performance. (Thats Auto vs Auto.)

I as well test drove both. I even drove the 330 after I purchased my IS, and to me they felt the same on speed. Like I posted before. The BMW felt heavy to me. Bigger. The IS feels light and quick.

A few of those posts were mine (Chris) - I was being bad again, tormenting bimmer.org people.

I think we have our own snob here who thinks that the only time a 330 can't beat an IS300 is when the bmw driver isn't good.

What I really want to hear about is IS300s vs. the E46 3-series on autocross courses. Has anyone taken their IS300 to any SCCA events yet? What class is it in, and how have you fared?

I raced a couple weekends ago in West Palm Beach. I didn't do too bad, but it was my first go in this car (I usually autox my miata) and I was working out tire pressures...

Nevertheless, the results are here. I'm down in GS, which Banannie says was wrong... The Integra in my class (is that really where Integras go?) was on race tires and the Imprezza driver, of course, had AWD.

hmm.. the SCCA has not classified the IS300 on their website yet, but the GS300 is in Stock Class G, the BMW 325/8 (Auto), Audi 1.8T/2.8, as well as the Integra GSR/Type R are also in the same class... so the IS300 is like to start there as well...

it'll fair decently, though i image in Audi 1.8T and Type R are most competitive... perhaps the 3 series as well...

hope that helps

MrClam has the oracle of delphi stuffed up ... oops...

I mean - the only way to tell is to take both cars to a track... puts the same tires on the cars and have A professional driver take a few laps in each and compare average laps times...

my GUESS is that the cars are close enough in performance (as are most cars in this class) - that the driver makes ALL the difference...

the old Audi Quattro Coupe (Turbo) is also in this class... wonder if anyone races one in this class because it should fair very well also... (this car was priced to compete with the 911Turbo when it was released almost 20 years ago, and one in decent condition will pull sub-6 STOCK! - it only weights 2600-2700 pds!)

That's right, man!!! Even on a straight road hauling, a 'good' driver knows exactly how to 'put the pedal to the metal'.....

It's not how fast you can do it, but how it coordinates with your own breathing.......

mrclam: So you're saying that the 330i in that race wasn't in good condition???? How do you justify that??? Oh!!! I see.....You're implying that BMW uses substandard parts in their car, right???

um...in this case, it is the driver....when i say in good condition, if the car hasn't seeen an oil change in 20k miles, you know what i mean. the 330 is close enough to the IS a driver will make all the difference, but the 330 has been rated faster in i don't know how many tests....and tahts' with professional drivers. the fact taht the 330 is faster in undisputed, unless you want to bring in the fact that the 330 has a speed limiter chip at 128.

Maybe you're right.....it's the driver.....He wasn't breathing correctly.....

Undisputed?? Maybe they oughta change that from now on......That was solid proof....AND FROM bimmer.org, and not from here.....

Also, try explaining the unavailability of the post.....Now why would they do such a thing like that???

i dont' know but what i do know is that the e46 drivers aren't exactly the best....they're not very educated, some of them think that the 330 will give better performance than an m3....i mean thsi guy was probalby just like a poser type.....
