Just wondering if the IS250 has a governor on it. Someone at work said his old is250 (2006, he now has an ES350) cut off at 100mph. I didn't believe this in an IS, so last night on the way home from work (11:45pm, highway was pretty empty) I got on it, and got it up to about 112 before I had to let off because cars were coming up. So is there a top speed limiter? I think I would have reached 120+mph if I didn't let off. I never drive that fast anyways, I was just curious.

I have a 2010 Is250c never found the governor yet, been over 120mph. I've read it shuts down 145ish....I don't have a good enough stretch that I feel safe enough to try it around KC where I live. I push it at 120!! That's fast for state hwy as is.

Per Lexus:

IS250 RWD: 140mph
IS250 AWD: 130mph
IS350: 142mph

all electronically limited.
That sounds about right to me cuz I pushed mine to write about 127 miles an hour as I let up just before with a 130 marker and I felt like there wasn't much left and I have all wheel drive

If nobody has had an IS over 140 that is sad! I had a four cylinder Chrysler Conquest Turbo 1987(Mitsubishi Starion) that went 155. Four cylinders! Eagle Talons were similar in power and speed also...

Well top speeds are governed electronically on most cars. Brand new cars do have the power to hit 140mph. However most are governed. For instance my wife used to have a E39 540i that was an automatic. Plenty of power from the V8 to hit 140mph. However it was limited to 135mph. My E39 540i which was a 6-speed manual, easily hit 145mph. I think we’ve all driven fast for some reasons but in the end it really isn’t worth it.
