since i'm here working in taiwan for a while, i thought i'd go over to the local lexus dealership to check out an IS200 to see the differences between the 200 and my 300. i went with a co-worker and he made like he was interested in buying one. we got the sales guy to take us on a test drive. while we were out, i convinced him to let me drive the car back. i don't think he'll ever let a foreigner test drive a car again
he wasn't used to american driving i guess... anyway, i have to say this car is SLOW. it is considerable slower than the 300. also, it seems that the suspesion is softer. while the car was parked, it looked like the car was much higher. the wheel well gap looked huge compared with the 300. and i can see why the front would have more gap (lighter motor) but the rear was a lot too. this looked like a 4x4 lexus. heh...i took some pics so i'll try and post them later.

i got a couple brochures too. they're in chinese so i can't read them, but they look really different from the IS300 ones. cool to have i guess.

i also found an altezza model here too. i've seen a bunch of die cast lexus rx300 and gs300 models, but no is300 ones...
hopefully i can find some soon...

oh, one thing i noticed when i drove the is200, they have the rear fog light switch. i know teg and i were talking about a switch before. i ordered this switch...looks pretty cool...TEG...i'll show it to you when i get back to the bay area...

just thought i'd share my trip with you guys since i'm bored out here...

oh, and the fog light switch i'm talking about is the "rear" fog light. it's actually the two round lights on the trunk. they do not turn on with the driving lights. weird...dunno why it's so different...

yes, it's the ones they were trying to get to work earlier...

oh, and the fog lights in the front are clear, not yellow. don't know if they'll fit on ours though...

steering felt the same on the car. the power and the tranny shifting felt different. the suspension just felt softer. ride was a bit smoother. that's about it...if i lived here, i think i'd still buy one and change the motoer or add a turbo.

Yeah I go back to Taiwan every summer and people there are maniacs on the raod...especially the taxi drivers. Lots of nice cars though...

i heard taiwan has changed a lot over the years. i was here two year ago and it's changd since then. this time i'm down south. near kaoshiung...in tainan. i've seen all sorts of weird cars i don't see in the states. last nite i saw this MB that was a 4 door and it was really really small. i have no idea what the heck it was...weird. also, i found out that in taiwan, the lexus dealership brings in only 4 models. IS300, RX300, GS300 and i think the LS too. they said they are only allowed to sell a limited # of cars so they only bring in these models to taiwan.

i'm wondering what car i should try and test drive next... hmm...

A-Class is only available in Asian and Europe...for now. However, there is a rumor that it may come to North America in 2 years(but I doubt it).

Hehe, and believe it or not, Mercedes makes minivans, too..
the V-Class...

Hmm, never saw A-class when I was there last Christmas. And last I heard they are discontinuing the A-class, so no chance we are getting them here (who wants them anyway?).
I think one of the cars that impressived me the most is the March. You guys who have been to Taiwan for the past year or so should know what I am talking about. The little car that look like a mini-cooper. My aunt has one, it is nicely design for that price (~$17,000 but in Taiwan that is very little to be spend on a car).

yeah, there's tons of those little "marches" around. i think i even seen some that look like they were hello kitty special edition ones. pastel pink with hello kitty stuff all over them. i wish i had my camera to take a picture of some of them. they have some cool cars here.

even some of the taxi's are pretty cool. there was a bmw 3 series all yellow and decked out as a taxi. kinda weird looking but hey, you rather ride in a 3 series or an old ford escort???
