Problems:
1. ECU and TRAC fix
2. Minor creaking/squeaking
3. my cigarette lighter broke
4. all 4 tires bubbled in the first month

Personally, I think that Lexus's reputation for "highest rated customer service" is over-rated. I haven't seen it. The salespeople treated me like a king when I was shopping for the car. As soon as I have a problem, the service techs blow me off. I've been in the shop often to ask questions. I've NEVER left completely satisfied. The service guys always make me feel like I don't know what I'm talking about. I've been waiting 2 weeks for a damn cigarette lighter and not one phone call. Btw, they blamed me for breaking the lighter. Apparently, I'm not supposed to use the lighter for anything but to light cigarettes. Thanks for telling me 8 months after I bought the car.

1. Under Carriage thing.
2. Annoying Squeak from springs, fixed
after 4 attempts.
3. ECU & TRAC fix.
4. Rusted hubs. This is still a problem.
I have not bitched enough about it yet.
Will more than likely fix it myself when
I paint the brake calipers.
5. Had a problem with the CD player that
has gone away.

That's it. Not too bad for a first model
year. I would have waited for the 2002 but
my other car died and I had to have a new
one right away. I will more than likely trade
it in for a 2003 next year. The only cost
out of my pocket $21 for two tires with nails
in them.

I am fairly happy with the car overall, I
just wish I could have waited until 2002.
Of course, I will be happy next year when
I trade it in for a coupe!

Just my opinion, but I don't think you can blame bubbling of the tires on the car itself. Blame the tire manufacturer or better yet, avoid those potholes.

I have a co-worker that just bought a 325i about 1 year ago. She has taken the car to the dealer for warranty work at least 5 time or so.
Problems(The ones i remember):
1. Trunk release was stuck
2. Stereo went out and had to be replaced
3. MAJOR ONE - Had a head gasket leak and caused the engine to overheat.

This is probably not common instances, but hey they happened.

Has anyone read the long-term test articles from Autoweek yet? They reported the ignition lock cylinder failed and they had an accident which cost them $7,819.32 to repair.

I think overall, they like the car.

Two of the bigger problems are a faulty thermostat and a faulty auxiliary fan, which causes overheating. I'm not sure if there any recall notices concerning these two. Another problem has to do w/ the the final stage resistor for the climate control system; this causes the fan go haywire. Minor problems include a sticky accelerator pedal and rattles from either the folding seats or the Harman Kardon subwoofers.

maybe it's only me.. but my car came out after the ECU fixes have been done(my VIN is not in upgrade VIN range) and i still feel a hesitation between 2nd and 3rd.. it's nothing major but compared to all other gear shifts.. this one definately has problems..
and one more thing.. i know this might not be a problem.. but why is it that around 40 to 60mph range when you let go of the gas, the car seems to be slowing down?!? feels like minor engine break kickin in..
other than that, my car is just perfect.. I LOVE IT!!

- soft paint
- the hesitation everyone's familiar with
- squeaky seatbelt that i still haven't taken care of
- still can't believe there's a stick to keep the hood up.
- bad gas milage

Other than that it's all good. Sure I'll be a little jealous of the 2002's but after all the work i've done to this one, I couldn't just give it up. 11,000+ in 6 m and still rollin strong

Does anybody know if the models sitting at the dealers right now have the trac/ecu fixed or will I have to inquire about this when I'm there?

I thought I saw something on bimmer.org about them experiencing electrical fires.

I get Autoweek and read the article. I laughed my ass off at the accident. I wouldn't have laughed if it was me, but I still found it funny as hell.
