im searching and researching but no one can give me a straight answer, im planning on putting on a aem intake onto my 02 is300 5spd do i need a heat sheild for the filter if idont what will happen anyone can give me a definate answer???
you dont need one for the filter. but you should definetly have one for the headers. the worst thing is that you lose a bit of power from the intake heating up from the header.
Yes it is a good idea to get one as a lot of members have had problems without it when the fan kicks in. And most of the aftermarket intakes come with a heat shield because of this, I don't know why AEM holds out on us.
I never had an issue with my AEM intake in the year or so I ran without a heat shield, but I have heard of others who have. Heat shields are cheap so I'd just go ahead and get one.
