no, what throws the CEL (and please correct me if I misunderstood what I was told/read) is the mixture of more air into the motor. the MAF sensor needs to be reset and the car just needs to learn the new setting, of course our cars can relearn around it within 100 miles, so it just goes right back to close to the original setting
It is also possible to get one from the intake air being to turbulent to accuratly be metered. That is the problem some have had with the AEM because it's near the fan. A heat shield will fix this, it's also why the SRT intake has that little plate over where the air-scoop connects to the heat shield.
its a good start...just take off the neg cable, hit the brakes a few times to kill out all the power, let it sit for 15 min or so, reconnect, start, let it run for 10 minutes and then drive the hell out of it
