Notice from Pro Lex Performance: Do not downshift if you are going faster than the maximum allowable speed for the next lower gear. To get on a highway or to pass slower traffic, maximum acceleration may be necessary. Make sure to observe the following maximum allowable speeds in each gear. 1st: 35 mph; 2nd: 60 mph; 3rd: 91 mph.

Does installing short throw shifter void warranty?

I'm interested in purchasing and installing the short throw shifter but I'm concerned about it voiding any warranty I may have on the car. Do you know if there is any impact to the warranty?

I highly doubt a short shifter would void a warranty.

I was reading some posts... some .netter's
tranny failed at 4k due to Pro Lex Performance Short shifter. What generation was it? Was it because of mainshaft overplay? (It doesn't have the gate so you can keep going....)

<P>Is this problem only for the first gen? Is it faulty due to self installation? (I've seen other people have it on for the longest time without any problem.)

<P>I have a B&M shifter now, but I drove a friend's PLP gen-2 shifter... I liked it a lot. Is there anything I should worry about with the B&M?

I am also wondering if there are any problems with the B&M short shifter. I didnt know they can ruin your tranny. Thats a bit disturbing to find out. I know sometimes when I shift into 4th I have problems or it feels like it's grinding...but that may be beacuse I have to get used to it.

I had a PLP gen.2 shortie in my '03 for a long time with no problems except for some REALLY loud, irritating rattling. Especially when coasting downhill in gear. Mainly 3rd and 2nd. I heard that this rattling is characteristic to the PLP gen.2 and I tried everything to make it stop but couldn't. A counterweighted shift knob helped a little but not much. The rattling had to go...

I now have a Ralco RZ shortie which I believe is virtually identitical to the B&M. The throws are MUCH shorter and more direct. Not quite as notchy as the plp either. I think the Ralco is superior to the PLP in almost every way. The only thing the plp gen.2 has over the B&M/Ralco is that the shaft itself is shorter and the knob sits a bit lower which, IMO looks a little better.

Personally, I would recommend the Ralco RZ/B&M over the PLP gen.2 any day.

However, I have not heard that the B&M/Ralco RZ can somehow ruin a tranny before... Can anyone confirm this???

I have a Prolex short shifter and it does make that rattling sound... and its so annoying... I wonder if the B&M suffers the same problem..

bringing back a super old thread, anyone know where can i buy that 'black ring' that is glued underneath the shift boot? Broke mine by overtightening the shift knob, not the knob gets loose every so often. I cannot find such part after searching hours on lexus parts online. Please help, thanks.
