A strut tower bar, or sometimes referred to as a shock tower bar, reinforces your frame by connecting your struts in the engine bay. This helps eliminate some body roll and improves handling.

There has been much conflict as to whether or not the bar will fit with the engine cover on. Our opinion is no way in hell. There is about a 1/4 inch between the bar and the top of the engine block with the cover off. I have personally seen 2 IS's with this JIC bar, and they both touched the engine cover causing slight vibration. So in conclusion, if you want to keep your engine cover, this may not be a mod for you.

Easy solution to the vibration... mount the bar for about 2 days with the cover on. You'll see where it's making contact. If you have the guts (it's just plastic), take a cutting disc on a dremel. I notched out a section only on top of the intake manifold side (about 1¼ by 2½ inches) and the vibration is completely gone. It only under torque clears by about a quarter inch without the cover, and because of the motor's rotation, it's only on the driver's side.
