hey wait guys...i've read a lot of posts w/ cars considered inferior just by reputation to the IS...but gsr could beat it..as what the responses say...and other cars that are so much cheaper....i know u guys probably will say we bought it not just for its sufficient performance but for the luxury and reliability..but if i can't even beat a stinkin gsr in a casual race...geezus...i dunno...

well, let me take a stab at this...i own an integra...and i have worked on a LOT of gsr's...in fact, i was going to buy one a few years back...but the thing is, i think it's a whole different flavor...you know what i mean??? it's like this...when you go to baskin and robin's (however you spell it) and then you go to safeway...now...you buy chocolate ice cream from both places...how different are the two going to be??? not much right??? if you say...no way...then let's take a blindfold test and then we'll see...ANYWAYS...my point is this...the IS and some of the other cars in it's class are "roughly" the same flavor...but the integra is a totally different flavor all together.

the gsr is a great car...don't get me wrong...but when you drive the IS home...it really doesn't feel anything like the gsr...the car was built to tailor to a whole different crowd...the gsr only come in 5 speed...

and if you ever worked on an integra, well...you'd know how the car is built...the fit and finish is not up to par as the IS is...take for example...the door lock mechanism. go into a gsr and use the auto lock feature...listen to the mechanism...then do the same in the IS...now feel the leather...different grade...

the brakes are really different...the way the motor hums...the feel of the steering...there are soo many differnces...

i guess it's like how they say...you get what you pay for...BUT...i think the gsr is a better car dollar for dollar...but...you really can't compare the two...they're just two different flavors...

Good point. I used to own a GSR sedan, and it's VERY austere compared to an IS300, it's loud, everything's plastic inside, cloth seats, plastic steering wheel etc. It's very quick cause it's so light, probably 600 lb less than an IS300, and very nimble. It's a great car, I loved it, but you can't have both a light performance car and a comfortable luxury sedan.

To put it in easily tangible terms:

I would rather impress dates/passengers/co-workers with my IS300 rather than a GS-R/Type R.

I would rather cruise to where-ever in my IS300 than a GS-R/Type R.

I would rather hit the twisties in my IS300 rather than a GS-R/Type R. (Although it's possible that both may run similar times, or possibly faster with a Type R.)

I would rather impress my IRS auditor/investment counselor with a GS-R/Type R than my IS300.

I would rather become friendly with my local hop-up shop/race crew with my GS-R/Type R than my IS300.

I would rather gut and race-prep a GS-R/Type R than my IS300.

another point i thought of on my drive home...there's several reasons why there are so many integras on the road...#1 its a great car...#2 they are affordable...

if you have only a limited amount of money...then think about this...if you buy a gsr...and then spend a few $$$ more...you can have a pretty fast car...but, the status is still not there. granted, it will be faster, but i don't think anyone here bought the IS300 because they thought it was a really really fast car...they bought it for the overall pavkage...i know that is what i did...

just some food for thought...

well...look at it this way...the IS might be beaten by a GSR or even like a fixed up civic sometimes...but then...do you really want a civic over an IS just because it's faster??? not that all civic are...just saying that would you want a fixed up 13 sec civic over the IS???

one day you will out grow that mentality...i kno...i just outgrew it...right after i got the IS...but then again...if some guy in a civic revs me...i don't even bother...BUT...if he did that to me while i'm drivng the SUPRA...he's usually a spec in my rear view mirror in no time at all...

don't mind me...i think i'm just really tired and i'm babbling on...

I think the lighter, more responsive GS-R is actually more fun to drive hard than an automatic IS300, but for all those times when you're not driving hard, the IS300 is a LOT more pleasurable to drive, so it's a tradeoff. I think the stiffer, 5 speed IS300 will close that fun-to-drive gap.

I own a 98 Supercharged GSR, and will own a 5spd IS300. Frankly, I dunno why there would be a comparison.

Granted the stock GSR will win and lose some races (driver skill is a major factor here) to an IS300, why compare the both? Because they have similar acceleration times? People hardly compare the GSR with a v6 accord or a Maxima, the cars are meant for different groups and are in a different class.

Now, I think my GSR is funner to drive than the IS300 (and that's because it's a 5spd) but I'm sure when I get my 5spd IS300, it'll be just as fun if not more.

The IS300 has a better interior, quieter cabin noise, better ride, better leather, better brakes, firmer body and is a rwd. It costs more too. Unless you are so insecure about your IS300, why even bother to pay attention to the next person in his/her GSR?

When I'm in my GSR, I don't even look at zx2 or Neons. Sure some of 'em can run with me (the same way I can run with an IS300) but why bother? they're in a different league and probably could not afford a GSR

if you're worried about people coming up to you in miatas, celicas and gsr's wanting to race.. then I'm afraid you bought the wrong car...

why even bother with those punks... street racing is stupid, dangerous and a complete waste of time... might as well whip out your d**ks and compare...

my 2 cents...

I agree. I didn't buy the IS because I want to be the next speed demon of Minneapolis. That isn't it at all. I know for a fact a modded-out GSR or Civic could probably leave my IS300 a car length or two behind.

Big deal. I'm 26 years old and long out of that phase. I don't street race. If I wanted a faster car, I would have spent $13K on a Civic hatch and several thousands of dollars in parts. But it's just stupid, in my ever so humble opinion. The IS300 is leagues above all of that...

Scott.

It's me again!!

even when you close the door of the IS that feeling of "stiffiness" .. the ride on a IS is more mature and predictable...

You can't impress your dates/passengers/coworkers with a IS300. It's a riced out Corrolla!!
