I'm almost afraid to ask....

I'm currently leasing my IS300... and unfortunately, after 2300 miles, have come to the conclusion that I'm not that wild about it. It looks nice, and handles well, but the ride is loud and (to me) uncomfortable, and the tranny is flakey as all getout. My question is this...how easy would it be for me to have the lease transferred to another type of Lexus? I'd consider a GS300 or a pre-owned LS400. Does anyone have experience with Lexus leases and better yet, transferring or getting out of them?

Actually, if you think the ride of IS is rough and loud (which I don't), then you may not want to go with GS300. My dad has it, and it is not that much more comfortable than IS (in my opinion it is very comfortable, but for you it may not). Also, GS has louder wind noise than IS, so you may not like that. Your best bet is to go with either the ES or the LS if you want true comfort.
And don't think about MB or BMW if you want quietness and comfort, those two are for somoene for want luxury and sportiness.

well, i don't think you are recieving the type of response you were expecting, now- did you? The fact that Lexus owners did not try to convince you to keep your car even though you are not pleased, shows the maturity of the true members of this site. It also proves we do not believe this car is the best thing since tang, and the reason we love our cars so much is because it fits us perfectly.

now, with that being said, to answer your question about breaking your lease, I do not know how long the term is, nor do I have much knowledge on the subject, but I do know a lease is a binding legal contract, and by ending it early, you are costing the lender profit. Logically that means breaking the lease would mean major penalties, it will be a big hit, you may have to pay up to half the remainder of the lease or maybe more. It is not a wise decision monetarily-wise, but if it will make you happy and you think being satisfied is more important that saving a few dollars, (which I think you do, you did, after all, buy a Lexus) then by all means, follow your heart. Happiness cannot be measured in gold. If you can transfer the lease without losing too much (keep in mind when you return the car, it is used and the dealer will have to compensate) then it would be all the better, good luck.

the is300 comes witha sporty suspension, you should have noticed that when you test drove it. you sound like you didn't reserach a whole lot about the car and i don't know about leases but for you i think an es300 would be good.

I guess I should have realized that "the relentless pursuit of perfection" meant they hadn't quite reached the status of "ultimate driving machine" yet. Live and learn, huh?

Thanks, DonCorleone. I speant some time last night reading the fine print on the back of the lease. Lexus lets you end a lease any time you want, with a few stipulations that I'm guessing would add up to about $3000...but I can't help but think that they would cut me a break if I stuck with them and transferred the lease, rather than walking away...I guess it's time to just buck up and ask them.

Thanks, Daniel. My discomfort mainly arises from the fact that I'm tall and need a lot of lumbar support, and I can't seem to get comfortable in the IS seats for long periods of time. Unfortunately, I have LS taste and an IS budget....

Rather than bailing out on the lease, perhaps you could just get get the 16" wheels from the dealer. The higher profile tires would make the car more comfortable, and introduce less tire noise.

(Although your handling would suffer).

I don't think it should be a problem to get out of the lease. My family has had 7 Lexus and have leased a number of them. What usually happens with us is that we put too much mileage on them. We end up ending the lease early and paying some sort of fee. We start a new lease on a new Lexus.

I'm pretty sure your dealer shouldn't have a problem if you stick with another Lexus.

I love my car by the way. I guess it's just personal preference.

Funny thing is, TEG, that if they had included an automatic volume adjuster on the radio, I probably never would have noticed the road noise. I'm fairly sensitive to noise, so when I stop at a traffic light, I tend to turn the radio down, and then have to turn it back up when I get going again.

The automatic volume adjuster isn't all that it's advertised to be. You'll still find that your personal volume preference will overcome any automated system.

I have one and (though it works as it should) I still find myself adjusting volume to my mood, song type, etc. When I get to a light, and it turns down a song (or some interesting talk) that I like, I'll turn it up. The opposite is true when I'm moving and it loudens something I don't like. It's really more of a gimmik than a benefit.

Just my .02, so I don't think that will solve your problem. If the car is uncomfortable for you, then I do suggest contacting the dealer to determine your options.

PS>> 2300 miles isn't really a lot to base your experience on. Are you sure your not just going through some "buyers remorse"? I would weigh out the reasons you bought the car versus the reasons your not satisfied and then make a decision. BTW, this is an unbiased opinion because I'm not an IS owner.

By the way TEG, the dealer told me that the ride would actually be better with the 17 on because of the differences in rubber. He said it would actually be smoother.

I'm not I believe him because it's counter-intuitive, however...He's the sales manager...we've bought 7 cars...and he knows i'm picky. Maybe there is some truth in what he says?

I've learned from experience weather their the manager or not, don't take them for their word. I have never talked to your sales manager so when i say this i'm just being general.

We went to look at a Supra TT a while back at a dealer that was used. The sales man tried to tell us (my dad and I) it had a real nice supercharger setup on it.

Obviously it has twin turbos. The supra is a popular car, and most everyone knows that it has turbos unless its a NA. Even when we asked to see the engine he still kept calling it SC! This is just one time this has happen. There are many cases where my dad and i or someone else have looked at a car and the sales man thought they knew everything about the car they were selling just cause they sale them. OH the stories i could tell you about looking at RX-7s.

To make it short, do you realize how many sales people, including MAZDA SALES MAN, think it has a piston motor in it? Sigh... oh well.

My point, ask to drive one with 16" wheels... what do you have to loose? Also as for the contract... my dad has had many Acura's and never had any problems when he decided he didn't like the car after he bought it. When he wanted to trade in his Teg and get a CL3.0 They gave him almost full list price for his teg (that was a little over 1yr old) and didn't penalize him. But like i said.. he's been going to the same dealer and buying many acura's for a while now.

Damn didn't mean for this to get so long.

yep, I've had my shares of upgrading rim sizes, and I am positive that going to 16 wll make the ride better. It may not look as nice, but you'll have more rubber to cushion the ride.

Don't believe dealers, they tend to BS everything because a lot of customers will believe them. There are soooo many uninformed people out there!

I bought with the 16", and found the noise/feel to be quite similar to the 17" to be honest... The 17's held the grip a little longer perhaps, but the difference is very slim.
