Well, I just picked up my IS from Lexus of Oakville approx. 25minutes
ago. The car was in for warranty work on the transmission; which
as I posted before, has been giving me some grief. Lexus doesn't
rebuild transmissions, so lucky me, I got a BRAND NEW unit installed.

The service at Oakville was great, and I would recomend their
service department to anyone on this board. I was treated with a
great level of professionalism by everyone I dealt with.

Looks like I'm going to purchase an extended warranty... :)

PS. Too bad my loaner was a 4cyl auto Camry...lol. Oh well, it got
me from point A to point B.

:p

Nice one. My lexus dealership in Westlake and Beverly Hills give's me my choice of which lexus they have in stock for loaners... GX470 is pretty tight. Haven't driven the LS430 yet though...Even for oil changes....Im glad you didn't have to fork up any cash...:)

What was wrong with the tranny Boman?
I've got an appointment with Don Valley North Lexus next tuesday (reg maintenance + ECU/TRAC check - 80,000KM warranty is just about up), I'll ask for the sickest loaner they have!!! haha

Don Valley's been pretty good to me so far. Will let you know how it goes

Glad to hear you got your car back :)

How does it feel? How notchy is the tranny between shifts? Do you know what oil they put in the transmission? (Just a word of warning: if its 80w90 you might have some serious winter problems.)

Don Valley screwed up my tranny really badly. Which reminds me that I need to finish that letter of complaint I started writing a long time ago....

I had a worn syncro on 4th gear-- they call it a "4th gear Hub". So
when I was driving on the freeway 4th gear would pop out when I
downshifted. They also apparently found metal particles in the gear
oil.

It feels a bit more tight. The gears are notchy, the last transmission
was a bit smoother -- but I guess it will break in. They put in 80w90
according to the bill. What do you mean it will give me problems?

Thanks for the comments guys...Thank god they didn't wash my car.
I had a nightmare last night that I was going to pick it up and they
washed it and messed up the paint..lol.

With 80w90 in, it was impossible for me to shift into 2nd on a cold day. I used to have to drive up and down my street in 1st gear for over 10 minutes (to warm up the tranny) before I felt safe enough to venture onto Bathurst.

There's a huge thread about the problems of 80w90 in the Owner's Forum. Link: http://my.is/forums/showthread.php?t=233996

What is the mileage of your car? Have you ever driven it in the winter?

Hey Azzurro, thanks for the heads up man! Looks like I have a
project lined up for the Labour-day weekend...I'll just drain it and get
some purple synthetic. (I have no energy to go and bitch at Lexus --
I am in the business and see how angry people get nowhere with
service departments).

+rep to you my friend. damn, i can't give you any love, until I
rep others..sorry)

I'm just over 100000kms, the tranny has 5kms on it as of right now..lol.
I've never driven it in the winter, because I just bought the car in
March.

I have had my Civic tranny get sticky on some February mornings at
my old place, now my garage is heated so I might be okay with my
Lex. :p

Thanks again,

j
