I was reading a forum posting and someone said something about a governer on the IS, he said that he was only able to get his IS up to 144mph. I just want to say that that is [email protected], I got my IS going 152 and had to slow down because of traffic. So I was wondering what the top speed of everyone elses IS was?

Geoff, have you seen those speeds? Damn that is fast. In my younger days I was faster, but now 130 was fast enough. Actually, the speed did not slow me down, it was the thought of tickets, jail and insurance rates.

speedo calibration is off, especially at high speeds. the cl-s will show 155-158 on the speedo, but third wheel testing reveals an actual speed of 147.

Here is my answer, which is supported by car magazines and the Lexus Brouchure. The IS is electronicly limited to 143/144mph, however even if not it would not be going too much faster due to being redline limited and drag limited.

I hope my speedometer isn't off that would suck, But When I was drinving down US 41 in South Florida, I had Trac truned off ext pwr on and foot to the floor I swear to GOD the meter read a little over the 150 mark. But I haven't got any tickets yet so that suggests that my speedometer isn't off.

What's the big deal with top speed? It's unsafe to try it...and even on a road racing course you won't hit it.

I hope you ppl never drive near me at those speeds...on public roads that IS.

But then again, maybe you want to end up like Don Schroder...

A complete thought would be nice.

to get that 12 second time slip, you will have to be going pretty fast at the end. Going fast is part of a performance car and is as much fun as getting there quickly. As far as doing it, it should not be done around other cars in traffic. There are a few roads that it can be done on without endangering anyone but the driver and should be done with great care.

You're not going to get close to the IS300's top speed in a quarter-mile drag and, as Accord-R mentioned, road racers couldn't care less about top speed. Worry about acceleration and handling instead...particularly handling, the true measure of a race car.
