i am trying to understand how the dimming mirror technology works. does anyone here know?

uhh how about searching the internet?

there is a sensor on the mirror that obviously senses the amount of light coming directly into it. then it dims the mirror using something that is electrically sensitive

The auto-dimming mirrors are electrochromatic. they have a liquid crystal in the glass like on a calculator screen. under normal conditions with no power the crystal is clear. when the sensor detects too much light through the rear window. it puts power to the liquid crystal. the electrical stimulation forces the crystal to react and become visible thus dimming the mirror.
