I've been looking into getting an exhaust and have heard that the Greedy Evo system is a nice one, but is it a ricey sounding exhaust??? I dont really want a car that sounds like a juiced up lawn mower. I hate those civics that drive by and sound all loud and cheezy. I have heard the sound clips of the exhaust but I cant tell. Any one recomend another type of exhaust. One that will give me the most HP gain and not sound ricey. I'm not exactly sure what type of HP gains the Greedy system will give either, if anyone knows let me know...

my opinion is ot go with someting like a Toms exhaust or a TRD. Both made from the JDM and are sure to fit and u know its quality because it comes from toyota. They sound nice, not ricy at all and add horsepower. Thats my opinion i am getting the TRD. They look like stock but a bit different.

Geez there expensive. Do you know what kind of HP gains the TRD will give you. I might go with that as well.

HaHa pretty funny lyndon.. BTW Tony if you didnt get it.. its not GREEDY exhaust its GREDDY!! and i agree with you, I hate those rice rocket sounding crap. They sound like a broken lawn mower. If you find some realli good exhausts for your IS please tell us. thanx!

HKS Hiper, Greddy EVO, and 5Zigen seem to be favorites.

I can't really imagine a sound of rice other than the exhausts that make civics and integs sound like 50cc derby bikes. my god those are horrid.

But the Deep throaty tune of those three exhausts that I've mentioned above, are terrific. They're not too loud when just idling, around the 1800-2500 rpm, they are pretty deep for bass, but after that, it's all good.

I am not sure about the JDM Exhausts, well, I bet TRD would fit cuz they would make custom parts for whatever is in the US anyway, but TOM'S I don't know if they have one for the IS300. So the bolt on ability would be questionable.

Personally, I'd go after the Greddy Evo, for ~431 U.S. dollars, I like what the company offers.

Any one know the best combination of intake/exhaust that will make the most horsepower for the IS? WITH OUT the ricey sound. I prefer the deep subtle sound. But there are many intakes and exhausts out there. Just wondering which one would be the best.

what's your definition of ricey?

Is it the same as mine, or do you just call all loud exhausts ricey?

If you follow my definition of rice being any exhaust that rattles and is highpitched, as well as whiny, annoying, and ghetto like a broken muffler, then the greddy, hks, tanabe, and 5zigen exhausts you'll enjoy.

If think loud ones suck, just forget about getting a new exhaust.

Usually the nasty ricey sounds come from exhuasts that are not cat-back. They are only replacing the muffler section. So the piping before it is still small and can sometimes make that ricey sound. I believe all Greddy exhausts are cat-back, and HKS too i believe. Usually cat-back exhausts are more "real" exhausts SYSTEMS and aren't there just for looks/sounds. So as a side effect, they are built with better quality and sound better. Another thing is that Civics are small 4 cyl engines. Where as we have larger 6 cyl engines, so thing will definately sound better with ours.

I have a Greddy and it's just fine. Barely audible at idle, low rumble, and not annoying on long trips. Greddy, HKS, and all those other cat-back systems are probably what you're looking for. The back end onlys are just kinda for put-put noise.

I wouldn't necessarily call GReddy, HKS, or Apex'i RICEY...Cat-back exhausts are more performance oriented than sound oriented. Where as Borla, Sebring, and other companies come out with many "muffler" and "muffler tips" which usually only enhance the sound of an exhaust (and a horrible sound that is). That's what I would call ricey, and also the Honda OWNERS who buy turbo 5 inch exhausts, not the exhausts themselves. GReddy is a very respectable import tuning manufacturer, it's the riceboys that are twisting your perspective of them.

ok here's my .02..i've heard the trd it sounds like stock maybe just a little more rumble(i stress just a little!) i've heard the hks it is loud but a nice loud it has a rumble to it...i've heard the 5zigen it sounds ok...the greddy exhaust sound good to!! remember the civics sound like lawnmowers because of the vtec and they are 4 cylinders..now i've heard civics with greddy exhausts and they sound sweet you couldn't tell it was a civic until you hear the actuation of the vtec cams!! if you hear a civic sounding like a lawnmower it's most likely because they don't have a vtec engine or the have a cheap exhaust!! so don't be afraid and step up to the plate and get that greddy or hks...trd is quite expensive and me and gabe dynoed it at like 8hp...the hks gabe got almost 11hp ..and well the greddy no one has dynoed it yet!! 5zigen was dynoed at like 3 or 4 hp..so i hope i helped you out a little!!

oh and the trd's tip doesn't extend all the way out of the car in other words it comes up short because it is intended for the japanese altezza...but you could get a shop to make an extension pipe...as far as the borla i have a borla on my turbo beetle and believe me it sounds nice! borla makes good stuff that sounds really nice...everyone has their own opinion on what sounds nice...just my .02

I've got the GREDDY PE on my Civic... Very deep sounding gotten a few complimets on the sound as well... nothing like those civics that sound like gnats on 'roids...
