greddy evo vs. hks dragger ii

ok, i recently made the switch from honda to toyota.....im looking to order an exhaust any day now, but am still debating whether to go for the hks dragger ii, or the greddy evo.....anyone have any input on the topic? any info is much appreciated, the only real thing i can figure is that the greddy is a cat back system, and the hks is just a universal muffler, basically.....any power differences? sound differences? do i have to perform surgery on the cat converter to install the greddy? i had an accord with a apexi cat back, and had to saw off 3 inches of the cat cinverter and reweld it so the whole thing fit properly...and advise is much appreciated....thanks a lot....

the dragger ii sounds much better and looks much better than the greddy evo. the hks is nice and deep and rumbly...the evo has a ricey sound to it and is much louder! performance wise...wont see a significant difference.
I like my Greddy. I just put it on last night in fact. The only thing I don't like about it is it hangs a bit low so it doesn't sit centered in the opening. I don't agree with Wino II on the sound, I like it, but then again everyone has their own opinion.

I have the Greddy EVO, but was considering the Drager II also. I was just in an IS last night with the HKS. My feelings with both are that this HKS has a lower tone, but is also not as loud. When you get to higher RPM, the HKS quiets down a bit. When I'm opening up at 5 or 6k, the EVO sounds much louder, meaner, but at lower RPM it's not as deep.

I've noticed that the EVO hangs down a bit more. I think a muffler shop might be able to fix this. I will look into it. I have an audio clip of the Greddy in my driveway if anyone wants it, I can email it. Also, if you're looking for an HKS clip, don't be deceived by the Drager II clip on hksusa.com. That is a clip of the Altezza (4banger) and sounds very buzzy. Don't go by that :D

Also, the EVO tip is a bit smaller, and does not have the option for a silencer, should you go on a long trip and want to quiet your baby down a little. HKS is a 120mm tip where the EVO is only 115mm. I don't know what stock is, but I think it's probably about 3.5", around 80mm.... so both are significantly bigger and look great.

I don't know if you're going to be thinking about more serious breathing mods, header, race pipe, etc.... but the Greddy EVO runs a whole cat back 2-piece system, where the HKS is only an "axle back" system from the last set of exhaust bolts to the muffler. I imagine power is very comparable on both, especially top end.

Let me know if anyone wants the clip. I suck at websites, so I have no idea how to post it.

HKS makes much better exhausts. Welds and finish are probably one of the best. Not that Greddy is a bad choice but i think sound wise HKS, quality wise HKS, looks HKS, fit HKS, power can go either way i believe HKS makes like 1 or 2 horsepower more but you wont feel it. Remember cant go wrong with either but there is a reason why most people choose a HKS system over the Greddy. Much nicer system (HKS)
You can read the words all you want, but you need to hear and see each in person to ensure you are happy with your choice.

My friend has the HKS and I have the Greddy. We hang all the time. Difference is that I have a header and he doesn't so we can't really compare.

I personally love my Greddy, but I think that my header combo makes my comparison a little tainted.

Once again, opinions on this subject won't matter, you won't get anywhere because you will get 1/2 and 1/2....hear sound clips and go to a local IS300 meet or something.
here's how the GReddy Evo Exhaust System Sounds on my car...

i made two clips because they sound different when stopped and accelerating
Its has to be a personal preference. I had a Greddy SP system on my prev 200sx S-ER and I liked it. I contemplated the HKS Dragger vs Greddy Evo. The HKS dealer said that when someone went boosted, the SP system from Greddy had a tendency to lead at the roll points of the muffler. The HKS cans were welded at the seams, instead of rolled like the SP systems. The EVO systems are welded at the seams like the HKS cans. The EVO is a 2 piece system, cat back, while the Dragger is muffler only. I heard the Dragger and I found it was louder then the EVO. Not to knock HKS, good products, but I still went with Greddy. Just preference.
Both companies have been around for awhile so they must be doing something right.
HKS, Greddy .... Has any one tried the Invidia? They make nice exhausts too!

How is the GReddy rice sounding..... did you listen to the post the guy with the greddy exhaust made....

As for the question
I have the Greddy...when you step to it, it sounds MEAN...very deep sounding. Both exhausts are good..it just depends on what you are looking for.
Wow those clips of the Evo sound really good.

Did you view the clips posted above? I am curious if you consider that ricey/loud. I am not saying you are wrong or anything, I am just curious if you consider those clips ricey so I can better get an idea of what you consider ricey. And in your opinion, do the clips above sound similar to the way the Evo sounds in real life? Thanks 8)
thanks for everyone's replies, i will take them all into account....i had a slight lean to the hks side, and i think i will go that way.....your comments have been much appreciated

The  was for the way you used ricey.... If you listen to the clips of the GReddy exhaust it is not loud and annoying. It is very low and deep sounding...."ricey" is when the exhaust is freakin LOUD and sounds like a TURD or someone farting into a can!!

But hey why does it matter to me how loud the exhaust is...I just made mine louder with the header and midpipe, so I can Go Faster 8)

I was busting your balls Wino...its all good....
everyone has their own personal opinion but imo i would go with the dragger II.

if anybody wants either of these exhausts let me know. i can get them.
As a few have mentioned, it is very subjective. What sounds ricey to one may not to another. I tried the Greddy EVO and found it way too loud for me. Have also been inside Is's with all the different HKS exhausts. I also found them too loud as well, but deeper in tone. They both look good.

I went with a Remus. With my headers and race pipe, it's as loud as I am willing to tolerate. Has an M3 sound to it. I like it very much. Made in
Austria, very nicely done. Very attractive tip, in my opinion, among the better looking tips. Gains are similar to what most other have and it's all top end anyway.

But there are soo many variables when listening to an exhaust: headers, race pipes, intakes, etc. So try and listen to as many as possible then make a choice and have fun.
