Recently, I started to play Gran Turismo 2 again... out of curiosity, I went to the Toyota section and I noticed that the IS300 is on the game (the Altezza and IS200 as well), even though it had not been released in the states at that time.
I'm guessing that most people already knew about this... Even though the engine is different in the game, anyone reproduce their car in GT2 yet?

In Japan they also have a game called "Altezza Racing" for PS1, I hope I can get my hands on that one day, only thing is you'll need an adapter that reads copied and other regional discs. They sell them on various web sites appeox. $40. Anyway I spoke with a local game shop and they told me it would cost $80 for them to get the game, oh well. From what I have seen in some pics it look really fun to race. Have any of you out there seen this?

As far as GT2 is concerned I cheated a little, I dowloaded a code from my friend that gave me all licenses and 1 BILLION DOLLARS, I said holy sh*@. Boy did I hook up my Altezza's, and IS's.

How the fu*k do you guys play this game? I bought it and I find that it is IMPOSSIBLE to control the car!!!!!!!! Do you need some codes or a game shark for the vehicles to drive better?

I dunno, I must suck at that game because everytime I try to get somewhere with it, I fail. I think the gameplay of it SUCKS ASS

Whats up Jayru? Miami I see, just keep playing you'll eventually get the feel for it and it would help if you have the analog controller. I was also discourged at first but I kept trying and got the hang of it. It's a great game but it can never be fully completed due to the fact that production of the game was rushed to meet their deadline. So the drag race is not on GT2 as on GT1 so you can only complete 99.9% of the game. Looks like we'll have to wait for GT3(GT2000).

Gran Turismo series have the best physic engine in any video game, this is a fact no one can deny. Because of this, many of us used to racing game cannot adopt to it at first because you cannot just go fast and turn whenever you want. The best way to approach GT 2 is to think that you are driving a real car, so you know that there is a limit. Now keep that in mind and drive around, you will find out that it becomes easier to drive around the course without hitting the wall.
BTW, I believe there are at least 2 version of GT2 out there, one of which is the very first release where the 99% bug and test drive bug (the one that erase your garage) exist. The 2nd version is the one that Sony fixed these bug and a few other. There were never an official press release about this, but I have heard rumor about it and probably is true since the game has been out this long already.
BTW, what have been you guys' fastest time around Laguna Seca? And with what car? I don't want hybrid, I want a result from a real car so the result is comparable to what may happen in real life. I don't consider driving the hybrid fun, because you take all the fun of beating the faster cars with a slower, less HP car.
And to make this GT2 related, I think Altezza RS handle very nice in the game even when it is left in stock trim. For those of you who have played GT2 Altezza RS and driven the car in real life, how close does it resembel the real thing? I know the BMW was pretty close, but I cannot verify the Altezza. Now I need to go back and try IS300 (I don't remember seeing it) and see how close it much my car

I don't think there was an IS300 in GT2. There was Lexus IS and Lexus IS200. They were pretty much the same if I recall correctly.

Yeah, there were at least 2 versions of GT2. I called up Sony customer service and asked them to send me the fixed version. You can tell by the car wash (50 cr vs. 5000 cr).

Best tip for a beginner while playing GT1 or GT2...BRAKE BEFORE CORNERING (relates to what Daniel said).

IS300GTE: 4,00hp? how? code?
Hmm, I'll tell you what... If and when I go on another business trip to Tokyo, I will pick up a few extra copies (if I can) and bring them back. Just so you know, there are no immediate plans for the company to send me overseas. It may be a few months.

And yes JW, you are right. It is only listed as the Lexus IS, but I was kind of thinking that since the game was released before the Lexus IS300's US release, that they didn't know the "official" model name of the car. Thus, just the "Lexus IS". This would also explain the engine/hp difference between the game and the real IS.

I would have thought a newer de-bugged ver. would have been released, but some guys at a local game shop told me otherwise, so thanks for the info.

Aye-Yes300: Sounds good to me! I also hope to go back within the next year or two and stock up on tons of auto items.

Yeah, the IS300 isn't in GT2, they have an Altezza, a Lexus IS, and a Lexus IS200. Tom's Altezza is also there, but you have to win it.

You cheat on GT2!??! How despicable! :p

dyoo: GT2000 isn't GT3 from what I've heard, that's why they're calling it GT2000 as opposed to GT3. I think that GT2000 is just GT2 on steroids with a few extras...

jayru: controlling a car in GT2 takes practice and patience. Don't bust out with a 700HP JGTCC Skyline; you'll fishtail like there's no tommorrow if you don't brake and steer right. Start with a moderate FR car, and practice with that. You can get some FAQs from Gamefaqs.com that'll teach you how to drive correctly in a rear wheel drive car. Like Daniel said, GT2 is as realistic as it gets, so you can't drive like you drive in Ridge Racer; that kind of driving makes you end up facing the wrong direction (spin out) or against the wall at a 100MPH (which can really slow you down...hehe)

I really don't think IS300 is in GT2, IS200 and Altezza only.

So far, I haven't found any other car racing game that have the feel of the GT series. I'd try the Ridge Racer 4 with the Namco Force feed back controller. But GT still better.
