“ I have a 2015 Lexus IS 250. We recently got a ECL of P0301 . Through a variety of tests and leak down compression check, I have confirmed both of the valve guides on cylinder #1 are bad. One is severely worn which does not allow the valve to seat/ seal correctly. The other 5 cylinders do not have any leaking , however I have not examined these cylinders for worn guides. My question is- can the cylinder heads ( especially bank 1) be removed without dropping the entire engine and subframe? It appears there might be sufficient room to pull the exhaust manifold, however very difficult to reach all of the bolts.. I have a copy of the factory repair manual however I have not found info if this can be done. I know the front timing chain cover has to be removed to get the heads off. I am unsure if this can be removed and reinstalled without dropping the engine and subframe. Any suggestions are welcome.”
