I think there is a lever in the trunk that enables u to manually open the gas tank..It looks like a cord sticking out on the side of the spout, and probably has a tag on it to determine what it is.....I have seen it in many cars, im sure yours has it..

Thanks for the tip, tried to access it through the trunk but there's no way to get to that area. Any IS owners got any ideas?

Thanks in advance,

I just traded in my 97 Mazda Millenia S and when it would get cold the gas cover would sometimes stick, so what I had to do was push in cover in like your closing it and then pop the cover with the lever. Once I got it opened, I sprayed a little wd-40 on it. Hope that works for you
Try banging it with a hammer, or just force it open with a crow bar... Just kidding - dont do that really

Try pushing it in lightly while pulling up on the release handle (you probably will need some help unless you have the wingspan of shaq).

Try going to the dealership and telling them to fix it.
drive to my house in san jose...ill fix it..
got gas?
Went to the dealer tonight and got it fixed. THe spring was bent or something (new car?) and they replaced it. Just to let you all know, there is no backup lever in the trunk on either the IS300 or ES300 as per the service man. Mine was just a fluke and as long as that's the only thing wrong with my car, and its now fixed and good as new, the car's a keeper! Lexus service is the best!

On a side note, major head turning quotient at the gas station at night with the SBM. This dude with in a Benz stopped to ask me what the name of the color was coz he's fixing up an old El Dorado. SBM is amazing at night and I love how it looks different in different lighting.
