I was getting antsy because I was doing mostly city driving and hadn;t really gotten a chance to put some real break-in miles on my IS. I was at about 800 miles.

Took a drive up the 101 from Los Angeles to San Luis Obispo. Got some nice mountain driving on the 154 through the Santa Barbara wine country. Very nice drive.

Got 395 miles from a full tank of 92. That's about 26 mpg! much better than I thought.

My IS now has 1250 miles on it. All is good except all the dead bugs on my front bumper! Thank god for bug and tar remover!

well it's really not 17.5... let me explain and every IS owner can back me up.

When the little "out of gas" light comes on and you run to the gas station and say "full'er up" and you barley get 15.5 gallon’s in the tank.(WFT!! I thought I was empty) So really you should take 15.5/395 which gives you 25.48. So he is right. So that mean's that you get 2 gallon’s of reserve gas, which is about 40 mile's or so.

Or did you not "empty" the tank?

when I filled up again, the car took 14.9 gallons. So I didn't "empty" the tank.

to tell you the truth, I had no idea the tank was 17.5 gallons. That'll cost me about 36 dollars to fill with gas prices in LA

I guess the premature low gas warning was a thoughtful consideration from the Toyota/Lexus engineers in response to the poor gas consumption.
