I just ordered a Gredd Evo exhaust, and being almost a complete newbie when it comes to working on my car i am going to gracefully throw in the towel and have someone who knows what they are doing do it, so when i am driving down the highway i dont all of the sudden hear a metal clanging noise and see something metalic roll down the highway in my rear view mirror...

My lexus dealership was going to charge me $95 an hour to install a L-tuned exhaust (which they said would be a couple of hours), however I know of a good body shop that i was considering, or would just a normal sevice station at a gas station be okay for this job?

Or... what would be involved in doing it myself? I am not mechincally retarted, i just dont have really any expeariance working on the car. So would it be possible for me to buy some jack stands and fish out some tools and do this myself?

and suggestions would be great! thanks!

Where are you located? If you had your location in your profile, someone in your area might have responded who could help you out. Some people on here offer to help out with exhaust/intake installs for others in their area.

Definitely do it yourself. I have absolutely no mechanical inclinations whatsoever, and I managed to do it. Takes less than an hour from start to finish.

WHAT?! A couple hours!?!

It takes 30 minutes at most for a complete moron to do it himself with jacks and a rachet. They have lifts and air tools and they're charging a couple hours!?!?

I would be furious if they quoted me something like that, it's a complete and obvious rip-off. Luckily you didn't bite.

Do it yourself.

Most muffler shops take 30 even 15 minutes...Don't do it at the dealership  Took me an hour just cause of those darn bolts :x But a place like Midas will charge 40 dollars and be done in 15 mins

It takes longer to lift the IS and put it on jack stands than it does to install the exhaust...DIY :D

Yeah, I think they were really milking that one for all they could get.

I was going to say something about them suggesting that it would take multiple hours to do (who knows, maybe their car stands are really really slow, and its a lexus policy for customers to pay for the mechanics ltime during his lunch break, as well as the jobs he did before and after mine), however it really wasnt worth it, and the $1k for the l-tuned pipe that really didnt do much more than the stock pipe was enough to turn me away.

$1,000?!? You can get the L-tuned exhaust for $600 from Carson Toyota. www.l-tunedparts.com.

Every once in awhile you can get one used from someone off of here. Gambit sold his to me a few months ago, and I think Wino II just sold his.

It IS easy to do if you have a lift of some way to get way under the car. I tried to do mine and couldn't get it up high enough with just jack stands and a jack so i paid. It was just a bitch to get the leverage needed to do it while laying on the ground.

My shop threw my evo on in like 15 minutes. I gave the dude the keys, went out front, took one phone call and smoked a cig and it was done.

ITS EASY!

you need to buy 2 extra bolts/nuts/washers.

well, maybe it was just bad luck, but they only gave me 2 sets of new bolts, and the stock ones dont work...anyone else have this problem?

if you plan to install it yourself, go to a hardware store and pick up some stainless steel nuts (4), bolts (4) and lock washers (4) for under $10. you will be better off in the long run.

$500 exhaust and it includes steel bolts? what up with that?
