Yep, the lease on my LS400 is up in May. I have an LS430 on order that should be here in April, so I just have to decide between that and the S500.

My father has a 2000 S500 Sport. It's a fantastic car and possibly the best Luxury car in the world (according to Motor Trend). However... It's hard to justify the $20K premium over the LS430.....

Yeah it is very hard to justify the price. I love the style of the S500, but the interior of the LS430 is superior, as is the ride and drive. Believe it or not, but I drove the S500 right after driving the LS430, and I thought the LS430 felt much more connected and solid on the road. The S seemed numb.

I sat in a black, fully loaded, LS430 the other day. Jesu Cristo...welcome to the Mother Ship! That car is unbelievable. Great choice...

Stephen,
You have to drive the S500 with the available sports package (18inch wheels/tires). There's a big difference in the driving feel and you have to put the suspension in the firmest setting then it handles quite nice....

Eric, My old rear end likes that smooth ride though. I put a lot of miles on my car, and a sport package would be fun for all of 2 days. Thats why I got the LS400, because of its long haul comfort. This car is absolutely a pleasure to drive on a long highway trip. I think the LS430 will be also. So would the S500, but those big AMG wheels would bug me

Stephen, I was in love with the S500 myself (although I'm not old enough to buy one), but I sat in an LS430 last week and I gotta say it's got an edge over the Benz. Not that the Benz is not a great car, but the LS430 has everything that the Benz has (except the sexy lines maybe) and then some. It's a technological marvel. And beleive it or not, the looks grow on you. It's really not as bland as I once thought. Plus the ride quality is better than the Benz, and the car is more fuel efficient too (if that counts at all). Acceleration wise, they're neck to neck - thanks to the enormous 320 lb ft from the 4.3L VVT-i. As far as amenities go, my dad's getting one with every damn thing possible (including a little refrigerator in the back) for $68K. Now is that a good deal or what.
Plus, the quality is supposed to be better than before. You know better than I do what that means.
