Hi, it's been a while since I've posted here !

I sold my boosted is300 2 years ago to complet my home renovations....now I'm almost done with them and it's about time to start a new project.

does anyone ever tought about swaping a 3ur into an ISx50 2nd gen ?

I've looked arround and IS250 manual come cheap enough to try it!

UR are pretty close to GR engines....I mean they share many components.

I've look arround on the web and found nothing about a 3UR swap into ISx50 2nd gen.

any advice other than "Go buy a IS-F if you want a V8 in it"...

Your question is rather similar to my 3uz thread right before yours. Although electronics can be a nightmare at times, one of the key issues with the swap is oil pan placement.
Of course you can always cut/weld, but it's nicer when you can drop it in and handle the rest.

Looking at this image:


The pan seems to fall exactly where we need it (similar to 3uz, 3gr and 4gr). The 3ur is a pretty tall engine, which means you'll need to open up the hood if you add a supercharger, or have some cutting to do due to the awkward throttle body pointing up.

Although it's in a drift-spec SC430, you can see the swap 'needs' here:

Thanks for the reply...I'll be closely looking at the link you provided...

electronic will be a nightmare for sure....i'd like to retain the stock Tundra ECU but I still don't know how it will behave without any input from the auto tranny !

oil pan, I don't feel like it's going to be a big deal...same for motor mount as a UR was already fitted by Toyota in the IS-F

about the intake...well I know pretty much all pick-up intakes (LS series too in GM) are very tall but are the engine bloc and heads much taller than a 2UR ?

BTW plan B is a UZ in a FR-S...but I rather like the IS, I'm not a big fan of 2 doors cars !

Don't forget the steering rack linkage/steering column too - I remember the guy that did the LS1 IS250 had to do a bunch of custom work for the steering column to work.

yes I've seens that thread and I need to ask him why he actually did that...

I guess it's because he lost all sort of control for that power steering be removing the stock ECU...same for the drive by wire !

I'm starting looking at an auto swap instead of a manual swap...tundra 4.6 1UR 2wd share the same auto trany than an IS350, the A760E...I may buy a whole tundra 5.7 2wd to complet the swap ! they are getting cheaper and cheaper...as the ISx50

I believe he wanted to remove some of the electric steering and change to a manual rack. Not sure why elec rack couldn't be kept.

Out of curiosity, how cheap can you find the IS205. Cheapest I found here is about $7k for a manual IS250 that's got a blown engine and pretty bang'd up.

The 5.7 3ur is like $5k.. can't imagine this being cost effective. That's why I was leaning towards the 3uz, since that's a bit cheaper.

I found couple IS250 arround $8500 CND (I'm canadian) full equiped without nav and fews tundra 5.7 2wd arround the same price.

I'm aiming for a project not over $25k...

UR might sound a bit expensive....but I'm pretty sure to save FAB work along the road with Toyota bolt in part, electronic almost plug'n play...

I would love to find an easy receipe with stock part so many others can do that swap too !

I need to keep this car as daily drivable and user freindly as much as possible...I guess I'm getting older :):)

for my first corolla I built out a 7AGE with formula atlantic spec, then a Celica swaped with 3SGTE full stand alone Megasquirt ECU, then my IS300 with emanage piggy back...and now maybe an "IS570" with all stock ECU from a Tundra :):)

Well do a 3UZ($3k)/1UR ($5k) then.. It's already working/setup on the GS430/GS460, which in the past has been close to our IS.

Just make sure to document it all. haha.

When you see the number of ECU that need to be part of the CAN network, it gets daunting.

Well...you don't know me....I never had any other brand than Toyota...and it's not starting today !

I never had a V8 before you know....I was happy with the 2JZ route on my IS300 but as you know..."there's no replacement for displacement".

I did so much Honda swaps, B20-Vtec, LS-Vtec turbo for others but I always stick to Toyota !

BTW I've just downloaded the Tundra 2007-2010 FSM this afternoon and I'm still looking for the IS one...any hints on that ?

I need to compare both on paper if it's even "doable".

I'm still thinking about it and I won't buy anything before next summer anyway ! You might start your project before mine for sure!

Please keep me in touch about your setup and project I'll be watching you closely...any input will be welcome for sure!

Still trying to get the proper vehicle for it and figure out if I want to spend the money. I'm all about keeping it Toyota oriented and would prefer it. Just the power numbers on that ford engine are killing me.
