it's a top end unit sound quality wise. in terms of comparison to other units in it's class, only the top end clarion and the higher end nakamichi's can truely smoke it (and of course the exotic units by alpine and pioneer that cost an arm and a leg). Note: those models i listed above do NOT have onboard power, thus this unit is probably the best sounding headunit you can get that has onboard power. If you like a unit with alot of features, lights, and functions, the eclipse is the best performing unit you can buy, and it's damn good.
BUT, one thing that really bothers me alot with the unit is the change track KNOB. It uses a knob to change cd tracks which sometimes sucks. Like if your on a bumpy road, you might turn the knob too much and overshoot the track you wanted to go too. I suggest you play with it before purchase.
Performance wise, you have nothing to worry about.
