I do......I really liked the way the car looked, etc....

but this car I find not fun to drive. Without a manual, it just a nice car to look at........honestly, I had WAY more fun in my civic si, heck......I have more fun in my girlfriends civic LX 5 speed. Thats the reasons I'm selling basically........

anyone else share this opinion?

At first no, but after driving the WRX yesterday, I do feel some regret since the suby has the punch due to the manual tranny. Furthermore if money is important to anyone, the ~ 10K difference could be well spent elsewhere. That 10K went into the Lexus badge since we all know the Altezza is around 25K. And I don't feel the 10K went pretty far in terms of Luxury since my IS has engine vibrations which I think that luxury cars should not have.

I swear the board is crawling with people with no brains. Why the hell would you buy a car without test driving it first??? I mean, we're talking about $30k or more, and it didn't occur to you that maybe you should consider other cars?
That foolishness aside, you're saying that you quantify a car's "fun" factor by whether or not it is a manual? Are there any other factors, like perhaps it's cornering ability, or it's acceleration, or it's stereo, or it's retractable hard top etc....? You take all the features of a given car, you weigh them out, and you decide if this car is for you. If you buy a car that is supposed to be "fun" based on it's advertising campaign and it's styling, well then you have no business complaining about it in after-thought

Yeah, you're dumb.

I did test drive the car, I though it was great then..........but ever since then it was like driving another car. Being able to corner is one thing......but when you floor it around the corner and you have to wait for the auto trans to kick in, or in 2nd gear, your auto sticks at redline for a couple seconds before jerking into 3rd...., or when you break until you almost come to a stop, then floor it and you dont' go anywhere because the auto hesitates.....yeah a manual is good. I mean, manuals make one of the largest differences in a car. It takes the fun out of driving it big time. I guess I could get a IS300 manual, but I'd rather spend my 400/month on a 'project' car and then have a 'daily' car.

I bought the car thinking I was it was the perfect luxury/sports combo, but I guess I missed the 1 key. So, onto project type -r.........

I would have gotten the bmw 3 series manuall, but the dealers turn you off big time......

That WRX is cool, but styling is not all that.....definately a nice ride though, a couple guys in our club (www.redlinemotorsport.com have them.

LOL...more fun in a Civic LX?
Ok, I guess you're entitled to your opinion, but you made a pretty expensive mistake from the sound of it, and the LX comment doesn't really help you either.

To each his own. Hopefully, for your sake, you'll take more time with your next decision.

heh, nice come-back...
Nothing you can say wil help you save face in light of the fact that you bought a car which you don't like, and you got because it looked cool.

Yeah, you're still dumb.

I like the car, but I'm saying its not all its cracked up to be with all the problems, and the auto sucks. Maybe I should trade it in for the 5 speed.......hmmmmmm

Modifying and auto.....it just sounds funny. Damn kids, I tell ya.

Whoa, a fully loaded Altezza for US$25K? PLEASE TELL ME WHERE I CAN GET A DEAL LIKE THAT!
A fully loaded Altezza without tax will come to around YEN 3,270,000 (US$1=YEN114 then US$28.7) and after tax it will be somewhere around YEN 3,800,000 (US$33.3K). Sure the exchange rate fluctuates but the recent decline of the value of YEN is quite abnormal, I wouldn't be surprised to see YEN be around US$1=YEN105, then it will be US$36K.

Well, we've had so many of uneducated comments like these, all I can feel towards "trolls" like him is "Ahh, the poor fellow who has to justify his action of buying an overpriced German automobile." I feel for you, man. Enjoy your A4. Or the Volkswagen with Audi exterior, or whatever that is supposed to be.

What's so bad about auto? Have you driven Supra TT auto?? I don't think you can still say auto-tranny sucks after driving that car. anywayz, did you receive ecu/trac update yet? I think your car needs it coz it hesitates when shifting. I love my auto tranny, and i don't think there is anything wrong with modifying auto. Is there anything wrong with wanting more power regardless of having an auto or a manual? umm... NO. There is nothing wrong with it and you're calling a lot of ppl in this forum damn kids by saying that. If you really want a manual tranny that much, why did you buy auto IS300 in the first place? If you don't like your car, trade it in b4 its value drops more. Stop complaining and go get yourself a manual tranny car. '02 manual IS300 or civic Si or whatever that would be. I'm having fun with my car here, and i love my car. There is no reason for me to be called "damn kid." I ask for your apology for calling ppl who modify auto-tranny cars "DAMN KIDS." I take that as an insult to not only me, but to a lot of members on this board who are trying to modify their '01 or '02 auto IS300.

brilliant... why don't you comment on my spelling mistakes too, that's about the caliber of your posting fortitude...
"all the problems" <--- what for example? The undercariage? piece of plastic fixed under warranty. The transmission hesitation? Fixed early on in production, early models are covered under waranty.
There are no massive recalls, so what's your point here exactly? It's not up to Honda's impecable standards, but it's a close 2nd with Toyota quality behind it. Modding an auto is no different than modding a manual. It's not like you're going to be racing it, other than in a pseudo-highway-ricer-flyby... Did you think you'd get laid more by owning a lexus or something, and things just aren't panning out like you'd hope?

Now that Im done with all my mods, I love everything about my yellow IS. The only thing i hate, which we cannot change in the autos, is that it doesnt hold first gear long enough for me. I think it is too short and we could get more power out of it if first gear was maintained a bit more. Oh well, my 2 cents!

I was just kidding about the kids thing......I'm only 21 myself (just turned).... With the Supra TT, I mean, I don't doubt its a friggin fast fun car, but having a manual just makes you part of the car. I mean, 2 different people, 1 manual car and it can seem totally different. 2 different people, and an auto, and the same turn out time after time... But I was thinking, and I'm just going to keep it for what I got it for......and luxury/sports car to drive around to events, a night out on the town, etc.. I'll also be getting that integra I've been debating about and make that my 'fast & fun' car. I mean a manual supercharged gsr + mods up the kazoo.......to me, THAT is fun!

Thanks for the replies, no matter how harsh they may be!

I like having an auto since there are days, and traffic situations which make it bearable. I have a manual 91 MR2 turbo and if I get a an itching to drive stick I can, but if you bought this car thinking it was this badass sports car then I'm afraid you didn't do your homework. I love my IS, but I was under no misconception that it was this racing machine. I think it's fun to drive and yes it always has the folks taking a second look for it's beauty unlike the WRX which is just plain ugly and the Civic which is just plain pathetic!

Here is my take.... Auto or manual is a matter of personal preference. In regard to the hesitation with the auto, all that can be solved by turning off the TRAC!! I can't compare the IS to CIVIC, maybe to the BMW 325, but then again, it is another personal preference between the two. I'm sure all of the real IS owners have done the comparision before buying the IS. I took the IS because of the price differences. My brother in law bought a 325 a week before I got my IS. I got my silver loaded (no LSD or heated seats) IS $5,000 off the MSRP in Los Angeles and he got about $600. Other than some interior squeaking noise, which I heard is common with the BMW's, I am happy with the look and performance of the IS.

Its funny how the only bad thing people can say about the WRX is how ugly it is. Thats personal preference and its not relevant to this discussion. You cant sum up a car by its looks.

Anyways you cant compare a Supra TT automatic to a IS300. Thats just off the wall. The similarities end at the engine code.

BTW the IS300 is a very fun car to drive, even with an auto. I can imagine the 5-speed manual will be even more of a thrill. But once again, peronal preference!
