Ok so it looks like I might have done it wrong. I need to go back and set to TDC and pull the ext. cam cover to verify I am lined up with the cam marks. Then loosen the hex bolts on HKS ext. cam. Wrench of crank bolt and turn till I get to 4* retard which is 2 ticks on the HKS cam gear.

you can loosen the bolts on the cam gear and use a wrench on the camshaft to set the right timing. you do not need to remove the valve cover to adjust your cam gear.

Glad I could help out and i am glad this thread is working!

And as for a faster then stock relaible NA setup i would go with the cams, cam gear, intake, and full exhaust. and if you want to step it up get some sort of EMS to tune with to take full advantage of the setup. as for my car i was dynoed once but i was on the stock ECU and i made 205whp and 210 torque and it was 60 degrees when i was dynoing. now i am tuned on the emanage ultimate and i want to say it added another 10 to 15 whp and a few more ftlbs of torque.

this thread is kinda old but i dont think its a FULL DIY just yet...

quick question.

after you put on the cam gear how do you adjust the gear itself?

Loosen the five or 3 bolts on the cam gear and put a 17mm wrench on the bolt holding the cam gear to the cam and very gently tap it towards the way you want. and make sure you tighten the 3 or 5 bolts so your cam gear does not slip.

this is a great thread. only thing im unclear on, although not as large as with upgraded cams. putting a cam gear on stock cams and retarding it 4 degrees, will or will not yield a performance gain.

im pretty sure the answer is yes, but when someone asked the thread got a little unclear.

it will yeild in a small power gain, but the thing a cam gear really does is make the power band more consistant. it will make it smoother and more graduale rather then feeling spots where power some what falls off then come back. to have full benefits of the cam gear some NA mods are needed such as: intake, exhaust, cams, or some type of piggy back or stand alone ems.

thats what i plan on doing anyways, but was just curious. thanks for the answer and continued great threads.

out of curiosity, any reason you went with the titan motorsports gear as oppose to hks, aem, etc.?

not a problem, and actually i didnt go with any of the cam gears you listed. I bought a Unorthodox Racing polished billet cam gear. if i were going to buy another cam gear and wanted the JDM style i would buy a JUN cam gear :)

Ok, so i just got a Fidanza cam gear from another memeber on here and want to clarify setting before i get it done. It doesnt say which way is adv or retard. It's got 12 on both ends with the adjustment line underneath. I heard you go to the right for retard so does that mean the adjustment mark gets turned toward the right 12, correct?

If your looking at the cam gear left is retard and right is advance.....
