On certain stations, even though i have a clear signal normally, whenever I turn on my rear defroster it causes the radio signal to develop heavy static. I would assume it is because the defroster wires are interfering with what I believe is the printed antenna on the back window.

Is this problem normal and is there any way to fix it?

the last time i checked my antenna is on the roof. i would think yours would be the same as well. the printed wires on the rear window are for the defrost. maybe the defrost wire and antenna wire run together under the roof lining? or maybe you're catching interference in the dash?

i've never had this problem myself, nor have i heard it to be common among the IS. sorry i'm of no help

The reason i talk about printed antenna is from what it looks like in the repair manual, there are both the external and printed antennas.

I believe there is both an antenna on the roof and an antenna imprinted in the rear glass. Do you have any radio related mods on your car?

One of the previous owners had a system installed, it isn't there anymore though.
