My IS needs new tires and the stock size is 215/45/17 but I would like to see how 225/45/17's look on the wheels, I've read on several forums that this size works well on this car. Would appreciate any pics if there are any to share.. or feedback from anyone who has installed this size of their car.
Thanks ...

Hey here is my old IS. Not the best pics but they are 225/45/17s. They look perfectly fine and will provide some extra traction! Definitely look into them!

All I had. Enjoy!

Hey guys.. I got my 225/45/17's installed today but i'm actually really disappointed... they don't look/fit like the tires you all posted for me.

Isn't a tire supposed to be flush with the front of the wheel? or even overlap a little for protection? It's as if these are almost too small / narrow but how is that possible after moving up in width from 215 to 225? Any thoughts??

This can't be how they're supposed to fit, is it?... now i'm in a bad mood..

i asked at my installer.. he reached back into the wheel well and said probably would fit fine but -may- rub a little at full turn left or right.

i think the problem that occurred was not in the size of the tire but the specific tire itself, not all tires are equal and some have better designs for your needs. the Michelins i have on my car shown in the pictures are the Pilot Sport PS2 in the front and i forgot what tires i had in the rear. If you wanted tires that would protect the rims, i had a set of Dunlop Direzza DZ101 in my previous car that did the job well, currently i have a set of General Tire Exclaim UHP and so far i have nothing but good things to say about them. Sorry the tires you put on your car didn't meet your expectations, perhaps if you posted the tires you were planning on getting we could have helped you out more. Also on another note, there is quite a difference in design when comparing all-season tires to summer tires

You're right I should have posted the tire first.. i read today on Michelin's website that among other things, i get a 30 day trial period Total Satisfaction Guarantee: Tires: Michelin Tires (which the installer didn't mention) so i should be able to exchange them.. I was just looking at the PILOT EXALTO PE2 earlier today, if i can switch these out, i'm going to get the PE2 in 225/45, i don't like the EXALTO A/S on my IS... anyway, my fault for not doing enough research..thanks for your reply..

what do you think of the EXALTO PE2?

good catch on that 30-day trial. I don't know if you already use various resources to learn more about particular tires, but when i buy tires i always read consumer reviews and any test results if available on tires through tirerack.com or popular shop websites like evans tires, firestone, or discounttire, and of course searching the forum to see if any members have already used the tire. the General Tire Exclaim UHP i mentioned in my earlier post is actually, IMO a really great tire for the price, i believe i paid around $90 for each tire from discount tire. anyways good luck getting tires for your IS, hopefully the shop you got them at honors the 30 day trial period

Thanks again! Turns out they WILL honor the michelin guarantee.. they "don't have the PE2 in their special order book" so i can't get them but i got a mgr who was actually very helpful (different crew working tonight)..

Fortunately (thanks again here), I spent time today on consumer reports and tire rack & decided tonight to spend a little more and get the Sport PS2. (they didn't carry general) but thanks again for posting your pics.. i'm getting the exact tire and size you had, so now i'm confident the car will ride like it should..or better!

many thanks to all who posted.
