Check System Light driving me CRAZY!

16726 Views 12 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  01 SolarYellow
I swapped out my wheels/tires last week from aftermarkets back to some genuine Lexus wheels (the aftermarkets were on it when I bought it, drove me nuts). The check system light came on and hasn't gone away since. Is this typical? Do I have to take it into the dealer and pay some exorbitant fee in order to get a light off of my dash that I don't need?

No, you don't have to take it to the dealer, but you do need the code(s) pulled from your computer for us to head you in the right direction. Just about any auto store will let you use an OBDII to retrieve the code(s) for free. Once you get them, post em here.
Actually Jason, I am sure that he is talking about the Tire Pressure Monitor System.

If the light wasn't flashing and telling you "check system" when you had the aftermarket wheels, all you have to do is dismount the tires from the wheels, remove the tire pressure sensors from the wheels and install them onto your current factory wheels.

If it always flashed you may have the system set to the 2ND set of tires and not MAIN.
To check there is a swtch that kind of looks like this <O> right under the dimmer knob. Press the buttom to the right until you see the message "TIRE SELECT MAIN 2ND". If its in 2ND press the button in the middle to switch to the MAIN set.

If that does not work, you may have to take your vehicle to a dealer. If you have TPMS sensors in your current wheels (they have a metal valve stem instead of rubber) you may have to register to the TPMS ECU. If they h ave rubber valve stems then you need 4 TPMS sensors and have them registered to the system.
Ahh, I bet you are right. Damn, sometimes I put too much thought into something simple. You're the man bro, and sure know the 2nd gen Wayyyy more than me:approve: thanks!

Yup, usually the 2nd switch that makes it blink. Ive had customers come in with just rubber valve stems wondering whats wrong lol. Hopefully he doesnt need to break the tires down to get the codes off the sensors.:frustrate
Tire sensors >_< that is frustrating and a PITA. If you have runflats and need to get them changed (i dont think you do) but its .7 per tire for a remount and sensor install per tire!
You're seriously charging seven tenths to put in a tire sensor? Run flat or not, it takes all of five minutes to take off the wheel, bring it to the tire machine, break and hold in the outside bead then loosen and remove the old sensor, and put in the new one, then air it back up.
Ha we get an hour per for sc430 tires. Plus another .5 if we need to register the sensors.

I can see an hour if you're actually removing the whole tire, those things are a pain, but to replace a sensor? You just have to break the outside bead, not remove the whole tire.
Yea we know that, the customer doesn't. Just how my dealer does it. The TRD wheels are the worst lol.
