yep, I heard toyota should have put more time developing the high-revving engine and its 6-spd in the celicas.

My friend tells me it's hard as hell to keep the GTS in the powerband.

However, they are nice cars though.!

Gee, I thought all the ignorants and assholes showed up here. Jeesh. Anyone can miss gears - I've done it enough times.

What's the car with the problem where the chassis/transmission/engine shifts or rotates slighty and you can't get the car in the next gear?

It's like when the engine in my miata blew up and then I'd say, oh yeah, I installed a turbo on it. Then I'd get, "oh, well, there you go then." Bzzzzzzz. Wrong. My engine failed due to a bad thrust bearing. Something that has happened to quite a few "stock" 99 motors and has happened to more than just me on high mileage older miatas. It's certainly not widespread, but it does exist...

The car that "rotates" was the E36 BMW M3. Under spirited high-rev driving, the engine part of the drivetrain rotates under certain loads. What you get is downshifting from 4th to 3rd is actually 2nd gear even though you swore you put it into the 3gear slot. 120mph into 2nd?>?....Buerfft!!!! 9k engine blown (and blown in a bad way)...

whoops...that makes no sense eh? 4 to 3rd gear? From 4th to 3rd goes into 1st....

Well.....One does not shift gears by pure brute force. Manual transmissions are actually quite delicate, especially with the gears......It doesn't take much to ruin it.

I still wonder why people like to yank the shifters while shifting......Maybe they're nervous??? Give the synchros a break.

As a two time M3 owner, I've gotta set the record straight. There are a few guys out there that have over-revved their engines and caused damage, but its not due to any rotation of the drivetrain at all. As a matter of fact, this is the first time I've ever heard of that said about an M3.

Anyone that has driven a manual trans M3 should know first hand that the syncros in the tranny are incredibly strong. The E36 M3 is one of the few cars that can easily be slipped into first gear at high speeds. Guys that have caused engine damage due to over-revving have inadvertantly downshifted from 4th gear to 1st gear, while thinking they were selecting 3rd gear. This is driver error that can occur in any car, but, infortunately, the M3 allows the driver to downshift into 1st gear very easily at any speed, without any protest from the trannsmission at all.

To sum it up, boneheaded M3 drivers do a good job of grenading their engines all by themselves.
