car duster cause scratches?

Several posters have mentioned the intention of picking up a car duster of some sort for their IS. I believe Pep Boys has a "California Car Duster", but I am sure there are others.

Coupla questions:

Don't they treat those things with some chemicals to help them do their jobs? Is there any concern that said chemicals will harm our finishes in any way?

Isn't anyone worried that the very act of brushing/dusting will scratch the finish? I mean, dirt/dust *is* abrasive, right?

If I could be convinced no harm would come to my car I might try one of these things. I assume most of you have noticed how much dust accumulates on top of the rear bumper in just a few tens of miles?

I don't have one, and have never used one, but I think they are coated w/ wax. It is supposed to lift the dirt up w/o scratching the paint.
