I see that zainobros offers polish for
both clear coated and regular paint. I have no clue what the difference is.

Thanks in advance for the help!!!
Hurry so I can order the products asap!

By the way, I have a black IS.

Since when do manufactures not use clearcoat. I know for a fact that my wifes old Grand Prix(99) had clearcoat on it and it was black!!!!! I've never heard that 1 before. As far as I know almost ever car is clearcoated and have been since the mid 80's.

My somewhat confused perception is that due to environmental restrictions all new car paint is a basecoat/clearcoat or basecoat/tintcoat/clearcoat. Clearcoats have been used for quite some time on colors - black and white have been the holdouts. The real answer is going to have to come from the dealer/Lexus but I suspect that you are going to find that it is a clearcoat.

If you you feel the need to get the answer yourself, try some polishing compound on a clean white rag on an inconspicuous area of the car. After a few passes, the rag will have picked up at least some of whatever the top coat is - black=paint / clean=clear.

You know, I thought you were annoying when you 'answered' my question about wind deflectors, and I now I know you're useless.

I was at my dealer today, picking up my car after 9 days in the body shop after they dented it. I was talking with the service manager, who also owns an IS300. A black one, in fact. I asked him if there was clearcoat on the black IS300. He said he knew for a fact that there was not.

I hope this settles this question.

Its nothing personal!!! I'm sorry that you dont agree with my views, but when I know for a fact that black vehicles do indeed use clearcoat, all I was doing was informing others of this. I dont own the IS in black so I can not go outside to confim clearcoat or not. Maybe for some reason Lexus did not use a clear on it, but dont genearlize and say that all black and white vehicles dont use clear as your statement does not hold water.

I said nothing about all black and white cars. TSoich said that he believed that black and white were the holdouts in not using clearcoat. lexusfast made the statement that all black cars do not use clearcoat. You made the statement that all cars since the 80's use clearcoat.

I just said that the service manager at my Lexus dealer stated that the black IS300 does not use clearcoat.

Hmmm.....Let me make myself clear. As this is a Lexus board All "Lexus" post 1998 models that have black as a color do not seem to have clearcoat applied. I don't know about other manuf. nor do I care for the purpose of this question.

My black Lexus is not clearcoat, that I know. I hope this helps.

Happy memorial weekend....
