Bike Rack...

1258 Views 11 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  s0yb0mb
Anyone have any luck finding a bike rack that fits the IS. I prefer a roof mounted one, but will settle for a trunk mounted one temporarily. To the best of my knowledge, Thule doesn't make one yet. ARGHH!!!!
I miss my hatchback. Well not really...

Check out some of this stuff. They say it can fit all sedans, just need to adjust the bars and stuff.
Bike Racks

Well good luck. I am sure there are some out there that can fit the IS, i am also a big biker and i am looking for a rack this weekend. If i see any i will tell you.
Yakima has some good quality products that are adjustable.

Check it out at:

i managed a bike shop through college and i know a fair amount about bike racks. the only rack i would put on my IS would be a roof mounted version by yakima or thule. both make excellent products. both companies pride themselves in manufacturing car specific fits, although thule is better at it. actually it's pretty clever. the bars and mounts are standard for all cars. what they package individually is what they call a "fit kit." basically it is just the small bracket that fits between the rack and the car. and it is generally a perfect fit. i'll call in and find out the E.T.A. for an IS bracket.
I actually had a Yakima from my civic that I absolutley LOVE... the yakima is much better than the Thule IMHO. So anyway, I ordered the new "fit kit" (clips) for the IS300 this week from www.rackwarehouse.com and they said since the part is so new, they had to order it direct from Yakima... most places I talked to said it would take 3 weeks, these guys claim a few days, so I went with them.

Since you are in NJ, if you want to get a Yakima or a Thule, I'd suggest going to Campmor on Rt. 17 North.( www.campmor.com )The people who work there ACTUALLY KNOW ABOUT THE PRODUCTS THEY SELL!!!
I know, strange to hear that these days, but it's true. They'll even help you put the rack on your car in the parking lot.

I recall seeing a bike rack as an available accessory for the IS200 on the UK Lexus web site. www.lexus.co.uk
Here is the description:Sturdy roof transport system features two Roof Bars plus your choice of optional attachments: Bicycle Holder, Luggage Holder, Ski Holder (vertical) and Sailboard/Mast Holder. The Roof Bars are lockable. Maximum load capacity 75 kg.

List of parts needed for the IS300 Yakima Rack:
4 Q-towers
2 48" crossbars
4 q-clips (I believe they are q-clip #112)
Locks are optional, but RECOMENDED!!!
I know that most stores do NOT carry the q-clip for the IS300 in stock, but Yakima DOES have a fitment kit because they published it in their fit guide that retailers get.

My civic was a 95 4 door... the 2 door version won't fit the Lex. It needed the 48" crossbars. I checked and all the parts carry over from my old civic except the clips, which ran me about $56 from rack warehouse (shipping incl.)

UPDATE:
I called rackwarehous.com and they said they're expecting the parts in by Tues. or Wed. next week. They told me that the part is actually q-clip #111 and REI does have this part in stock.
FYI q-towers come in a 4 pack, crossbars come in a 2 pack but q-clips only come in 2 packs, and you need 4. Locks are sold in 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 packs using a "same-key system." so make sure you buy more locks than you think you'll need. each corner takes 1 lock, but you will want to have a lock for each component you have on top of the standard rack.
If you get a rocket box, the locks built in.
