On the last page of this week's autoweek magazine they have a little "tidbit" saying that the first person to get an IS300 was a 29year old vegas showgirl. They have a little mock-up picture of an IS300 with a vegas dancer (with feathers and skimpy clothing) standing in front of the IS300.

1> Why would anyone care?

2> The picture looked remarkably like the "prank" picture we made with "Dame Edna" standing in front of a BMW 3 series to get back at the bimmer.org posters (sorry if you haven't been reading is300.net long enough to know what I am talking about). Perhaps the autoweek people saw that and are playing a joke on IS300 people? Naw - probably just a silly coincidence.

Call me a cynic. Sounds like a crass marketing/public relations stunt to me.

Lexus doesn't control over who gets car #1? Yeah, right.

IS300's target market is guys, age 25 to 40.

What do guys 25 to 40 like? Hmmm. This is the SI swimsuit issue demographic. But our target market would never believe that some SI swimsuit issue or Victoria Secret catalog model making Ferrari money would be picking up an IS300.

Nah, a pretty woman is what we need, but it's got to be believable.

So let's start with the little details. How old? Not too young - wouldn't want people to perceive this as a kid's car. Not too old - yeah, there are some hot 37 year olds, but how hot is the "idea" of a 37 year old? What's the perfect age...why 29!

Now, if we want to generate press interest, we need backstory. It can't just be some random pretty woman. What's a city that still challenges the status quo (our marketing theme), appeals to our target demographic and catches press attention? Not Cleveland (sorry Drew Carey). But hey, Vegas would work. Now what's a wild occupation without being over the edge? What says "hey, take a look at me"? Dealer in a casino is probably not a great choice. Lot's of attractive dancers from stip clubs, but that's a little too in your face. Hey, though, how 'bout a showgirl? That's still tasteful.

Whoa, guys, listen to this idea. First buyer of an IS300: A 29 year-old Vegas showgirl. Yeah, that's the ticket.

Then again. Maybe it's just random chance.
